Learning To Fall In Love With Everyone

As easy as it is is to find differences, challenge yourself to find similarities within each other.

Learning To Fall In Love With Everyone

I’ve always believed you can fall in love with absolutely anyone you meet. If you take the time to really explore someone’s thoughts and open your mind to understand and relate to them, you are bound to find something you admire.

We are all unique individuals that were put on this earth for a majority of reasons. We as humans, although very different, have all had struggles and have had moments of joy. I believe we can find more in common with one another than we can find in differences. The hate that we see every day from people can take away from all the love that is possible. If we would take the time to be understanding, no matter how different a person is from you, I bet you could find something you love about them.

Every individual that you have come in contact with has a passion for something. There is something in everyone that makes their face light up and mind fill with excitement. Even if it is something you don’t find as interesting, how could you not appreciate a person’s enthusiasm? Everyone has also been through something that has changed them. We are all out here struggling and dealing with problems that most don’t know about. Once you get to see a person be vulnerable and open up to you about a problem that has been taking a toll on their everyday life, how could you not sympathize? The world is a hard place most of the time and each of us knows that, so why don’t we make it easier on each other and stop hating for no valid reason?

I am well aware that it is impossible for everyone to get along. I also know it is hard to have respect and find something good in a person who has so many opposing views from your own. Although hard, it is not impossible. Instead of focusing on the aspects you don’t like about someone, try to humanize them and relate. Know that the person you have hate towards has a family that probably loves them, they have gone through situations that have hurt them, and they have moments they look forward to. It easy to find the difference, challenge yourself and find the similarities.

America is an amazing place because we are allowed to have different opinions and different interests. Our world keeps on turning because we all do something different to keep it in balance. We have lost sight of why differences are great and we need to rediscover harmony so we can fill our planet and country with love. It is important to voice our opinions and it is okay to give people advice, but once we have said our word let’s keep on believing what we do and find peace in knowing not everyone has to follow.

So go on through your daily life knowing that even the people you hate, you can find love for them. This week and year especially has had way too much publicity on hate so take it upon ourselfs to try to be a little more positive, a little more understanding and little more full of love. You alone can start a chain reaction and with that should come a feeling of great power. As hard as it is to sort through the negative and as easy as it is to disagree with someone I will continue to try my best to fall in love with everyone.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
