It's a different world when you live on campus. Sometimes living away from home is exactly what you need to find yourself (as corny as that may sound). It's a time where you have to fend for yourself, wipe your own tears and push yourself to the top.
1. Independence
This is an obvious one. Eat whenever, sleep whenever, go out and come back whenever. It's a different world. You have to learn to take care of yourself. Never touched laundry before college? Time to learn.
2. Sleeping becomes extra important
Maybe this is just a college thing, but whenever I have to get up at home versus in my dorm, I have an easier time getting up at home. College just compels you to sleep more.
3. Living with friends is fun
My past two years living on campus were some of the best times I've had. There was always someone ready to hang out and do something. College is when you realize that late night conversations are the best kinds of conversations.
4. Nothing beats a home-cooked meal
School food doesn't cut it. I ate almost the same thing every day because I only liked select things. At least home has delicious food and a variety to choose from.
5. Money goes quick
It's all new when you have to take care of yourself and buy your own food and necessities like toiletries. What I learned is that having a job during the semester is important, even if it's one day a week; it's a little bit to get you through.
Living on campus allowed me to grow. I don't regret any part of it. I found my forever friends, I found my independence, and I found myself (sorry for the cringe-worthy cliche). I'm glad I got to experience every part of it, both good and bad.
