The Things I Learned From Tami Taylor

"I am right 100% of the time. Just ask my husband."

The Things I Learned From Tami Taylor

"There's no weakness in forgiveness," said Tami Taylor, the mother, principal and guidance counselor from TV show "Friday Night Lights." This show is absolutely incredible in every way. The character development is done so perfectly that it is almost as if they are our real friends. The football drama leaves you on edge every episode. But it is Tami Taylor that makes the show as great as it is. She is a mother of two girls, one just born and the other is a teenager. As if that was not hard enough, she is also the high school's guidance counselor and has another hundred kids to worry about. And on top of it all, she is the wife of the football coach in the state where football is the second most important thing in the world, just behind God. She stands by her husband through all of his struggles and pressures.

Tami Taylor inspired me every time she opened her mouth and here are just of the few things I learned from my hero...

How to be there for my students

As an aspiring teacher, I watch Tami Taylor and am in absolute awe. She inspires her students every single day and makes sure that they know how incredible they can be. She takes students and helps them to see their full potential. Students like Tyra, a girl failing out of high school with no future to look forward to. It is because of Tami that Tyra went to college and found herself.

To call people out on their lies

Tami does not lie. Never. Not once. So if you think you're going to lie to her you better step back and think for a minute. She is not afraid to call you out.

To stay strong even in the face of discouragement

Tami has to face a lot of anger and disrespect from other people throughout this series. She is harassed and threatened and still through all of it, she does not show any fear. She stands up for herself and for what is right time and time again.

Not to put up with anyone who treats you badly

Never say anything bad about Mrs. Coach. She is a fighter and when people try to take her down, she just come back fighting even harder.

How to always have a poker face

Tami has absolutely no poker face. You can always tell, just by looking at her, what she is thinking. That is one thing I can definitely say we have in common!

To make sure my students don't grow up stupid

The love and care that she has for her students is undeniable. She may be a little tough sometimes, but it is the tough love that gets through to some students. She goes out of her way to make sure every student is living up to his or her potential.

How to be a mother

Tami is raising a teenage daughter and a newborn daughter at the same time and despite how crazy and hectic that may be, she always wants them to know that they can come to her for ANYTHING!

How to cherish the small things

She is the ultimate believer that it is the little thing in life, like spending time with the baby, playing football, and drinking wine, that lead up to the big things!

How to be a wife

Tami, also known as Mrs. Coach, postpones her life and her career time after time for her husband and his dreams She does everything she can for him and never once loses faith in him, despite everything that they endure.

How to Inspire

Every word that comes out of her mouth is an inspiration to just about everyone and without her wise words, this show would just about a bunch of good looking high school boys.

So next time that you are unsure what to do, or you are scared, or anything really, just think to yourself "What Would Tami Taylor Do?" And remember to always listen to her because...

When it comes to Bloomington-Normal, there are many outstanding factors that any Illinois State student can say are unique to our college town (and maybe others too). Proud or not, we Redbirds know all the ins and outs of Blono.

1. The wait for Buffalo Wild Wings is always going to be long on Thursday nights.

As hard as we try, it's nearly impossible to resist the 69-cent wings on a college student budget. Plus, they are always delicious!
