There I was sitting on the beach at 2 AM in Jacksonville, Florida. All my friends in Colorado were freezing their butts off in the biggest blizzard Colorado has ever had in the last 20 years. That day, I ran six miles along the beach. I usually don't do beach runs; in fact, this was my first one. I was stopped by a curious person. We talked for a bit and then, we parted ways. My mom and I went to get McDonald's milkshakes and I checked back in my pocket. My $38 that used to be in my right back pocket was gone.
So there I was, sitting on a beach with no money, my phone was dead, and I was just there. Just basically myself and my journal. I realized a few things during this time on the beach: that we are destined to the sea because it is the place where we all came from. I realized that sometimes it's just better to sit down, to do nothing on the edge of the world and just think to yourself about your hopes, your dreams, your desires, and how you want to live your life instead of the world wants your life to be lived. I found out that even the kindest words, the simple hello or little conversation with an absolute stranger can help a person through anything they go through. I learned that some secrets need to be kept secrets. Even if you must lie.
But hey, I'm just a guy on a beach at 2am in a strange land.
