All I've Learned From My Brothers

All I've Learned From My Brothers

With it being Super Bowl season, I have been trying to think of almost anything else because my team did to not make it. However, football is still my favorite sport and I can thank my three brothers for that! The big game has me reminiscing on all the things my brothers have taught me that my sister could not have possibly shown me while growing up.

Fortunately, I was able to get a feel of what it's like to have a brother and a sister, and I love it! Having three brothers would not have been possible without my sister though, and I thank her for that all the time. But, having boys in the house really opens your eyes to the "other side." My brothers were all very sporty and involved in different teams. I constantly found myself at basketball, football and even baseball games. If it weren't for them, I most likely would not be able to say that Odell and Cruz are my all time favorite receivers. (Yes, the Giants are the absolute best NFL team.) As a true football fan, I was at every single game they had growing up. Before I was even in high school, you could find me sporting my proud purple and gold from the student sections.

Besides different football stats, my brothers also have helped me develop a strong personality. I have grown some pretty thick skin and I understand things from their perspectives. Because of them, I know how to be patient. Some of the best memories I have with my brothers are when we are watching SpongeBob late at night or making weird faces while laughing hysterically.

My oldest brother has been an amazing role model. Being not only the oldest boy, but also the oldest child, is not easy. He has taught me that if you stay persistent, things will work themselves out and you will find great rewards in the work you accomplish.

My other older brother is the middle child, which is never easy in any family. Of all things I have learned from him, he has shown me that there is always a way to reason and find a compromise, even if it seems like people are attacking you from all angles. Do not give up! He is understanding and has been there for me in a lot of situations.

Lastly, my little brother, who is also the youngest sibling, has demonstrated so many great qualities. Being the older sister, it is my job to protect him! However, more often than not, I find him protecting me in most situations. He has taught me that even when I feel like the world is ending, that I am a role model without even knowing it. I sometimes forget that he is actually younger than me and sees all I do. It makes me feel good knowing that I have had some impact on the way he lives his life. I am so proud of everything he has done!

My brothers are my best friends and I can thank all of them for creating a unique part of my personality. Without them, there wouldn't be a part of me. I love knowing that I always have my brothers to go to for help and when I need a little protecting. They have made me a stronger girl and all sisters can relate to where I am coming from. Although they may be annoying at times, they are family and only do what they do because they love us!

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
