During my education career, I had to leave my school of Thiel College for a year and spend time in Pittsburgh at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. I was a part of a 3-1 program (three years working towards a Bachelor's in Business Administration and one year working towards a certificate in The Art of Cooking).

I grew up in the same small town my entire life and I went to an even smaller town to go to a small school. Living in the city for a year? What was I thinking? my very first day there was overwhelming as I moved my stuff and got myself together. I would be starting class in a few days and had orientation the next day. A lot had changed and I wasn't sure how I felt about it at the time. Now having complete my year and being back at Thiel, I find myself missing it sometimes. I certainly learned a great deal while I was there.

I learned that there is always something to do. There is some form of event that happens every now and then whether it be a game (I lived right by PNC Park and Heinz Field), a show (I lived by four theater centers), a race (Pittsburgh marathon was a big one), or miscellaneous (Art fairs, for example).

The downside to there always being an event though, parking is horrendous and roads are shut down. Have somewhere to be? You better find an alternate route and plan accordingly. There was a day where I was away in South Side for the day and couldn't go back to my place until the day was done because I lived on a main road that happened to be shut down and I couldn't put my car back into the garage.

I learned never to hesitate when crossing the road. Cars are going to be all over the place and when you have a walk sign, you walk, because you will miss your chance if you don't.

I learned there is always a place to explore. I would take my bike or go for a run to just about anywhere. There was always new ground to wander and I would always enjoy what I would find.

I may never choose to live in the city for the rest of my life, but experiencing it for a year was certainly an experience I would always remember. I would say everyone should try out the city life at least once in there life. It's different, it's surreal, and it's a great time.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.
