7 Things I Have Learned Growing Up With A Sister

I have actually learned a thing or two from the craziness of having a sibling.

As the holiday season rolls around and I'm still stuck at school, I have found myself reminiscing on my youth and especially how it was shaped from having a sister. There were lots of good times, and probably more bad times that we had together. Here are some things that if you have also grown up with a sister, I'm sure are very relatable.

1. How to win an argument.

Especially being the older sister, I have found my way to win every argument. Whether its sitting in the front seat or using the shower first, seniority goes a long way.

2. How to know when it's time to end the argument.

First, keep in mind that this isn't the same as losing. I can proudly say I have never lost an argument to my little sister (all though she might say otherwise.) There comes a point however, when you grow up and realize not all arguments are worth having.

3. How teamwork is always better.

Getting into arguments with your parents is unfair, they can always just pull the "because I said so" card. However, when you have a sibling on your side, it makes the playing field a lot more even.

4. How nice it is to have someone know you so well.

From kindergarten fights with friends to high school break ups, my sister has seen it all. She knows exactly when something is upsetting me or I had a rough day, and she knows when to talk to me about it or leave me alone.

5. How to always be on someone else's side, no matter the circumstance.

I think my sister could do literally anything (accept to me of course) and I would defend her to my grave. No matter how many fights you get in, your sister will always have your back. It's unconditional love between all of the fights and hair pulling.

6. How to be someone's "person".

Grey's Anatomy reference, but whenever something big happens to me or my sister we call each other first. From stupid things to big things like getting into college, we are the first person we want to tell exciting news to.

7. How to be so immensely proud of another person.

Granted, there are some days when I want to kick my sister out of the house. But there are also some days when I feel like the luckiest girl in the world to have her as my sister. Seeing her grow up into the impressive women she was has made me so incredibly proud.

At the end of the day, there will always be more love than fighting, but having both is what makes sisterhood so special.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.
