With the ending of the second round of the NCAA College Basketball Tournament, March Madness is in full swing. Sixteen teams have advanced to the next round and will compete for a spot in the Elite 8 round this weekend.
Our very own Wildcats making K-State proud and excited for the Sweet Sixteen round more than ever. In all of history, this is the March Madness that many will remember. Here are a few things we’ve learned from the 2018 March Madness Tournament:
1. Nobody is perfect (at least when choosing NCAA Men’s Basketball winners…)
Literally. Out of the 17.3 million bracket submissions all over the U.S., not even one of them is still a perfect match. Before the Virginia vs. UMBC match-up, there were only 25 perfect brackets left standing. The Retrievers huge upset, all 25 brackets were broken, leaving no one to win with a perfect bracket.
2. Nothing is better than proving people wrong…
The whole nation was shocked when UMBC, a school that almost no one had heard of before, beat the number one seed in the first round of playoffs. But the unnoticed school quickly gained their fame after their domination.
College basketball fans rallied behind the Retrievers as they continued in the tournament although they hadn’t been fans in the beginning. UMBC showed their skill and put their team on the radar.
3. K-State is the best, but we already knew that…
K-State students spent the last few months outraged about the fact that K-State basketball was not ranked during the regular season although their record was among those that were. But the Wildcats have proved their worth in the first two round of the NCAA tournament.
Ranked as number nine going into the tournament, K-State beat Creighton, who many expected to beat the Wildcats. After defeating Creighton, the Wildcats went up against UMBC, who beat the number one seed in the prior round.
Kansas State fans are now convinced that K-State is now technically the number one seed and I can’t agree more.
