So this past week I decided to go vegan. Honestly, I just wanted to see if I was able to do it and if the results were as great as people have been saying. So on Sunday night I got some ice-cream before my vegan week had begun. Throughout the week, I discovered multiple things about vegans, and even myself.

1. Shows Self Control

If you're able to go vegan then you must have some sort of self control. Especially when there are chicken tenders, sandwiches, and even cereal constantly in the buffet lines.

2. You Eat Much Cleaner

Because so many foods were limited, I found myself sticking to the salad bar and loading up on veggies and balsamic vinegar--a much healthier dressing option.

3. Sweets Are Not Vegan

While most people probably knew this, I constantly was complaining about how I couldn't have any deserts because just about all baked goods are made with eggs and ice cream is obviously made with dairy products. This was the real kicker.

4. No More Snacking

When you limit which types of foods you're allowed to eat, you find yourself rarely snacking. This was the case for me at least. Very few snacks are vegan, other than healthy fruits, vegetables, and granola bars. It really limited snacking, which is usually an issue for me.

5. You Feel Lighter

Because you're eating generally pretty healthy, you feel better about yourself and as if there were not as many toxins filling up your body.

6. Carbs, Carbs, Carbs

Honestly, definitely a down or upside of being vegan depending on how you look at it. Because food options are limited, you need carbs to fill you up AND they're like vegan desert. It's what you crave or binge eat just because you can.

7. Raises Awareness

All in all, the week was a success and wasn't all too difficult. It definitely made me realize what the healthy options are and how to keep a balanced diet. I'm going to try to do this when I can, or even during the week days. But I love sweets too much to make this a permanent change.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
