Learn To Love Emerald

The perfect mixture between blue and green and a great color for fall.

I've always been one to enjoy darker colors, especially for the cold part of the year. Somehow it just feels right to go progressively more monochromatic as winter deepens. For fall, this transitional season, however, I tend to find the most happiness in wearing dark reds, blues, and purples.

For the most part, greens have never been a huge part of my wardrobe, aside from the season-round olive of military-inspired attire. And yet, this fall, I believe I have encountered a new color to incorporate into my wardrobe, the perfect middle-ground between blue and green: vibrant jewel-colored emerald.

Unfortunately, because I am now at college, I can't afford purchasing as much of this lovely clothing as I would like, so I don't have pictures from my own wardrobe this week. That said, there is plenty of inspiration to be found elsewhere on the internet! Here I have gathered some of my favorite examples for your enjoyment:

I love so much about this outfit; all the shades of green represented look fantastic together. I've seen many these types of outfits around this season, particularly in shades of red. This green version is just so aesthetically pleasing to my emerald-tuned eye.

This outfit represents many of my favorite things: oversized scarves, interesting textures, and penny loafers. This style of shoe is one of the top things on my clothing wish list right now; they go great with boyfriend jeans, dresses, trousers - basically everything. Of course, seeing them in my new favorite color made my day, and I had to include them here so you could enjoy them too.

This bag captured my attention from the moment I encountered this picture on Instagram. In fact, I think this might have been the picture that started my thinking about the color emerald. I love the texture of the bag next to the star-and-moon-patterned fabric of the shirt. Sadly, though I searched high and low, it seems like this color handbag has not yet trickled far enough down the fashion food chain to reach my budget range. If, however, you have a little more money at your disposal than I do, check out this adorable emerald-green bag from Marc Jacobs!

And, lastly, this lovely emerald-green shirt embodies a combination of two wonderful things: the billowing, poofy-sleeved blouse and the button-up shirt. Paired with mom jeans, a great funky addition to anyone's denim wardrobe, this outfit is manages to look effortlessly stylish.

This concludes my endorsing of the color emerald! So, with your eyes hopefully now also opened to this lovely color, go out into the world and find some emerald to bring into your own life!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
