If you need another reason to procrastinate, or want a new hobby to impress people with (or both) then it’s time for you to pick up a ukulele. You can go to your nearest thrift shop, discount music store, or any of the plethora of shops online, and pick out a ukulele of your very own. It’s not much of a time commitment, and unless you get a baritone, it should fit comfortably in any dorm room or apartment. Learning to play the ukulele is much easier than it looks, and it looks pretty easy, right? First you need to learn how to strum.

After that, you can add on a few chords. The ukulele is a very versatile instrument, and you can pretty much learn any song after you get down some of the basic chords. There are only four strings on the ukulele, so your fingers don't have to do much work until you start learning some of the more difficult chords. Soon enough, you'll be able to play some of your favorite jams for yourself and your friends.

One very useful thing about the ukulele is that it is very easy to travel with. When I first began learning, I would keep my ukulele in my car (keep in mind this was in the spring, so it would not go out of tune in a hot or cold car) and I could practice when I showed up too early for a meeting, or if I had to wait to pick someone up. This also means you can also easily take your ukulele with you on camping trips, or you could be an incarnation of the "acoustic guitar guy" at a party if you really feel like it.

Before you know it, you'll be able to rock out like a pro. Even though the ukulele is usually imagined along with a warm, sunny beach setting, you can definitely kick it and play some AC/DC if that's what you love. Teaching yourself an instrument for fun gives you the freedom to get creative and follow your passions.

It may take some time, but with patience and diligence, you'll have a pretty solid set list of songs you can play when you really don't want to start an essay too soon. You'll also have a creative outlet for when you can't think of what to write for said essay. The ukulele provides a way to express how you feel with more than just words, and the best part is, you don't need to have an audience. If you play for your friends and family, though, you may decide that it's time to broaden your horizons. Having a solid handle on the instrument can give you the courage to step out of your comfort zone, which can prepare you for doing so in other situations.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant

There's always chaos in the restaurant business.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant
Brisanis

Working in the restaurant industry is possibly the most fundamentally challenging occupation I have ever experienced when it comes to hospitality and customer service. When you go to a five-star restaurant you expect the time of your life, a two hour getaway, a walk through another time period (rustic Italy, France, Spain, etc), or simply a honeymoon undergo. What you don't see are the behind the scenes scut work: carrying trays, polishing glassware and silverware, kitchen chaos, the list is endless. Now, I'm not saying being a host, server, or bartender is the worst thing in the whole wide world, there are definitely worse things. But the fact of the matter is that it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. In the two years that I have spent in restaurant and customer service, I have spoken my share of expletives, yelled at kitchen staff, and dealt with not-so-happy guests. It isn't easy to keep a bright and shiny smile on your face when all you want to do is choke every person who walks near you. Anyone who has spent even two weeks working in a restaurant understands the rigor and stress that comes with it. Restaurant culture is a tiny world in and of itself that operates on its own principles and creates its own society. It even has its own language. The sayings "runner", "corner", and "on a bus" wouldn't make sense to anyone otherwise. My mother and I both work in a restaurant and the best advice I can give someone going out to eat is to treat us like people. Yes...believe it or not we are people, people. Say "please" and "thank you", or stack your cleared plates before a busser gets to the table. Trust me, the gesture goes a lot farther than you may think.

So, if you work in a restaurant, you can relate with the following points. If not, check out how the brain of a restaurant service (or any customer service) worker actually works. See if you can identify any crazy weird habits your friends have a tendency to partake in.

One of the scariest things we will ever face in our life is going to college. Many of us move away to a new town, join new organizations, and make new friends. We are expected to study, have a social life, relationships, maybe work, and be healthy. It seems pretty easy to do, and in high school all we wanted to do was graduate and move on to this next chapter of our lives. If you are in high school, here are some things that you can learn from before you get to college. If you have already been through your freshman year of college, hopefully you can relate to the things I have learned in college.
