Learn How To Dress Like Rihanna Just In Time For Philly "Made In America" Music Festival

Sometimes I’m really glad I go to college only about an hour and a half away from Philadelphia, and even more so now that Made in America, a music festival hosted by Jay-Z, in its fifth year running, is happening next month. Two pop music icons, Coldplay and Rihanna, are headlining this year with a slew of other amazing performers, like Chance the Rapper and FKA Twigs and many, many more. The official Budweiser poster is featured here:

Just looking at the poster is giving me chills, and noted among others are the Collegrove Project (Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz), Madeon and dreamy, techno-pop queen Grimes. Tickets are on sale here.

The festival will take place on Benjamin Franklin Parkway, September 3rd, and 4th.

However, in anticipation of what will surely be a HOT festival— and I’m not just talking about the weather, people— I want to celebrate Rihanna’s top looks. No matter what, her performances are controversial, jaw-dropping, electrifying, and always a crowd-pleaser. Here are my top four favorite looks from Rihanna’s live performances over the years, in no specific order:

  1. “B**ch Better Have My Money," iHeartRadio 2015

ICONIC. If I could just say that and move on, I definitely would. With the green fur coat, go-go boots, and giant helicopter, anyone would feel as bad-ass as Rihanna looks in this live performance.

Completing the Look:

Kelly Green Go-Go Boots, Rusty Zipper, $30.21

Feather Jacket, Saint Laurent, $5,754

Black BodyCon Dress, WetSeal, $19.90

Funky Oversized Glasses, $9.99

Black Helicopter, $40,000~$1,000,000

2.”Diamonds”, Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, 2012

SLAAAAY, Riri! This look was a fantastic mix between Audrey Hepburn, and Lady Gaga (circa MTV’s VMA awards in 2009).

Do you see it now?

Yeah, I thought so.

Complete this Look:

Sweetheart Style Black Strapless Dress, DressSale, $151.99

Long Black Lace Fingerless Gloves, $20.09

Stockings and Garter Set, Nordstrom, $14

Multi-Strand Pearl Choker, Wanelo

Pearl-lined Sunglasses, uvZero, SOLD OUT

3. “Work”, BRIT Awards, 2016

A little less grandiose than the others, this look is simplistic yet modern, and the cool light show on the white suit was mesmerizing. Plus, the ruffle pants are pretty cute too.

Complete the Look:

White long-sleeve crop top, Express, 29.90

White ruffle pants, Go Jane, $54

Ruby gold pendant necklace, Macy’s, $831.99

“Lust Extract," MAC, $17

So there you have it, everyone! Channel Rihanna every time you go out. Stay tuned for more coverage of the Made in America music fest as well.

A Few Thoughts Every College Freshman Has

The transition into adulthood is never easy

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
