5 Life Lessons We Can Learn From 5 Leading Ladies

In This Article:

Alright girls, let's get real. In today's society the number of women role models is increasing day by day. We are on the move and we cannot be stopped. But what about the role models that we might not even think are role models? Like TV characters? After going through a good Netflix Binge I have found some admirable qualities of all of our favorite lovable ladies. From shows that are down to earth, serious, rom-coms, and even a little cringe worthy- each of these special characters has something to offer us all.

1.Jane Villanueva

Giphy

Hey hey its Jane! Some girls aren't necessarily a fan of the CW's "Jane The Virgin" but ya girl is, and throughout the series we've seen Jane at both her best and her worst. Through the good, the bad, and the ugly, Jane's hope never waivers. She tries her best to be the constant ball of sunshine and energy that everyone believes she is, even when it takes a toll on herself. Jane's hope for life and happiness is one of her most admirable traits. Thus bringing us to our first lesson, Jane teaches us never to lose hope. Our happy ending is just around the corner, we just have to be patient.

2.Queen Elizabeth

Giphy

Okay. Technically she's not only a leading lady on television, but shes also a leading lady in real life. But after binge watching Netflix's "The Crown" how can you not have learned a thing or two from the Queen herself? The biggest takeaway personally has to be her level of respect. For her family, country, and most of all herself. She knows that being the Queen is a stressful, high pressure job, but she never second doubts herself or lets others push her around. She respects herself enough to know the difference between doing the right thing and the wrong thing- and she won't let anyone pressure her into doing otherwise.

3.Betty Cooper

Giphy

At the start of Riverdale, Betty was gaga over her "boy next door" best friend Archie Andrews. Yet somehow over the course of six episodes it seems that Jughead has stolen hear heart. Sometimes the person we're meant to be with isn't who we think it is. That is one of the best lessons that Betty teaches us. She opens her heart and gives love a chance with someone who she never imagined herself with, and it turned out to be the best decision that she ever made. (#bugheadforever)

4.Leslie Knope

Giphy

I'm sure that Leslie Knope has made it onto a lot of these lists, and its clearly for a good reason. The most valuable lesson that Leslie teaches is us throughout seven seasons of "Parks and Recreation" is that we can overcome adversity despite being at a disadvantage. Nothing can hold back our will power (and our girl power). We are unstoppable.

5.Phoebe Buffay

Giphy

Phoebe herself is a classic. She comes from an era when the world was just a bit more free, there weren't as many standards to meet. And that is the lesson we take away from Phoebe- do not let those standards define you. Do not rush to meet them. Embrace yourself and learn to live outside of what people think. Once you do you will certainly enjoy life a lot more and find yourself living in a world where you define what is "cool", "hip", and "in".

There are so many more inspiring characters, that if I wrote about them this list would be ten miles long. They all deserve a place here. Hopefully after reading about just these few you can find a character you love who is not only a character, but a role model for young girls and women!

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
