In August of 2011 I took my first steps into my freshman year of high school, not knowing what to expect. All I knew about high school was that it would be the best time of my life as long as I made it that way.
Walking into Lake Catholic on my first day as a freshman was indeed the best day of my life, and I wouldn't have wanted it to go any other way. LC is a type of school where everybody knew everybody from the teachers, students, and their families. Everybody wore their uniforms with pride adding their own personal touches which showed that we were all a family with our own personality. You would see bows in girls hair, crazy colored ties on guys, colored t-shirts under white dress shirts, just to name a few.
Looking around the halls of LC you would see lockers decorated for birthdays, sports teams, clubs, you name it, your locker was decorated in recognition of all of your accomplishments. When we said that we had lists of clubs, sports and things to do around the school we weren't kidding. Everyone was involved in everything, and if we didn't have a club for what someone wanted, don't worry it was in the process of being made into the club. We had things from movie club, musicians anonymous, to frisbee club, you name it, we had it! LC taught me how to reach out in college and go out and join clubs and get involved. Without LC I don't know where I'd be today.
Everyone had their favorite teachers and staff, but we also had those who we ran from certain teacher. We also had that one teacher or better yet many teachers that we always there for us when we needed a good laugh, cry, or even hide when we don't want to go to class or get caught for being out of uniform. Now that I am in college I never know what to wear because I was so used to wearing a uniform to school everyday.
We didn't stereotype people as the Jock, or cheerleader, nerd, or artist; everyone were individuals who had their own spins on life. It wasn't known to travel as a single, you always traveled in a pack. You represented Lake Catholic in many different ways from the stickers on cars, your many different t-shirts from the many different events you attended, or even by simply telling people that you go to Lake Catholic.
We shared achievements with each other, shared laughs, smiles and the loss of loved ones in the community, you name it, we have experienced it all together.
We are LC! We are a strong family that stands by each others sides through thick and thin even now that we are alumni.
Thank you Lake Catholic, and especially thank you to the Class of 2015. You made high school great. Thanks for all the memories!
