If you are anything like me, you always like to save money when going out. If you're also like me, you hate going out of your way to save money. Over the past semester, I have figured out five easy ways to save money while going to an expensive university. This is what I have done to save money each week for my rainy day fund.

1. Download the Honey extension

I enjoy online shopping. It's easier and I can usually get a better deal hunting online. Honey is a browser extension that looks for coupons and discount priced items across the internet. You can save money or find free items with purchase. It just requires one download and Honey will automatically be attached to your browser.

2. Download ad blocker

If you have ever shopped online and then gone onto a social media platform, you often see the items that you viewed on that site. The more you see the items you didn't buy, the more likely you are to click on the ad. Download ad blocker to prevent spending money that you definitely do not have. Online shopping is a blast but more likely than not you don't need the items you viewed.

3. Don't buy coffee every day

Okay, so most people don't buy coffee every day. But as a coffee addict, it is always easier to preorder on the Starbucks app in a rush rather than brewing my own cup. Take a few days out of each week to not buy your cup. You'll save money over time and also avoid an extra step in your day.

4. Don't eat out every day

Buy groceries. Use them. Food waste is always sad and you will literally be throwing your money in the trash. Eating out is really expensive and going grocery shopping over time saves money and changes your spending habits. I go out for food once or twice a week and I track how much I spend on a spreadsheet. I save tons of money eat month by not leaving my house.

5. Pre-game

This part is for people over the legal drinking limit only (wink wink). Before a night out, drink a bit beforehand. Drinks can get pricey at bars so drinking beforehand will save the amount of alcohol you buy throughout the night. Plus, drinking games are good fun and get the mood set for the night.

I hate having to go out of my way to find the best deals or to save money. With a full course load, an internship and other commitments I need to find the easiest way to do things. This list includes some of the easiest ways to save money without having to put in a lot of effort.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
