A Trip That Defines a Summer

A trip that defines a summer.

Driving an hour and a half to a state I have only visited once. To meet a new person I have never met. All to have a date that would probably go down as the best first date ever. This trip was worth it.

To start the adventure I traveled to the northwestern corner of Connecticut in which I met up with my date. We headed to the mountain they had choose due its nice views and simple climb. We talked very easy in the car and it almost seemed like we were just hanging out like friends going on a hike. This continued as we started the hike up the mountain, sharing funny stories and things we had done. Relating to each other on multiple topics and never losing a beat other than to get a breath on the up hill trek.

What was amazing about this hike was that no one else bothered us that day, we didn't run in to anyone. It was as if the whole mountain was our own.

This mountain had multiple false peaks that led me to ask "are we there yet" like some wining kid in the back seat of a car. But we made it to the top and I was surprised by the wide view this peak allowed. It gave us a clear view of the whole surrounding mountains, it let us peer into neighboring lakes and the wind came across the peak giving us a break from the heat of the day. This is where we took our first break enjoying the successful feeling of making it up and enjoying each others company.

The really interesting topic that was brought up was if I wanted to try the hammock up here that my date brought. I was a little surprised by this as it seemed out of a book or a movie to be on a date on a mountain with the thought of being in a hammock. I quickly agreed and we looked around for a place to set up. It took us a few tries and tests before we found a good set up. So like any other twenty year old, I hopped into the hammock with my date and continued the date.

Sitting on top of the mountain hanging within a two person hammock. Learning the deeper questions about someone new and starting to bridge trust between both of us. I can't really describe how relaxed, special and free I felt. This was such a new experience and it deeply touched me. My date made me feel like a I was out of movie and I couldn't have been happier. So never doubt what could be with a first date because the world is ready to surprise you.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
