Last Week Was My First Week In College, Here's How It Went

To start I first have to say that all of my classes but two are online. With these online classes, it's self-paced, which last week I didn't think would be that bad. I was so wrong.

So it's Monday I plan out my week so that I have about two classes a day, both online and in person. I didn't think this was bad until about Friday when I found out I had already missed an assignment. That is when my panic first started. Am I going to get through this?

On top of school, I was also in the process of sorority recruitment. So with all of my panic about my assignments, I was behind on, the assignments I had due, and also being on zoom for long periods of time I was so burnt out and exhausted. That's when everything started falling apart.

I didn't want to bother anyone by asking for help but I needed it. I hadn't done something this chaotic since highschool. Not to mention I have no idea where my classes are and at this point, I had stayed in my dorm for at least 3 days in a row. Needless to say, the stress was piling up.

Then my saving grace came. My suitemates. They helped me buckle down and get to work. They stayed up with me and helped me finish all of my assignments and get them turned in. fast forward to Tuesday I got a planner and really buckled down to make a schedule. I did it. Moral of the story: be smart and don't lack on schoolwork.

So besides my class, I also mentioned that I went through sorority rush. Let me tell you, it was the best thing I have ever done. Yes, it was unconventional because it was all on zoom, but I am certain that I still found my forever home.

When I first started the process I was meh about it. I wasn't sure if I was going to fit in anywhere. As I visited with each house and talked to the members I knew which one I belonged to. That story is for another time, but I couldn't be happier that I stepped out of my comfort zone and it turned out in the best way possible.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
