Politics have always been a circus of corruption, money, and power. In the past, however, it seems to have been much more subtle. Whether you blame the Two-Party system,Global Warming, simple human evil, the Illuminati, or whatever else; We are all faced with a choice this election cycle and there is something obviously and terribly wrong.
The most popular choices are horrendous; A man who shows all the hallmarks of narcissism and the racism of yesteryear, or a woman who shows all the hallmarks of sociopathy and a political career marred by controversy from the start. The terrifying part is not how they are different however, but how they are the same. The Elephant was once an Ass and the Ass once worked among the Elephants. Both have shown immense disrespect for Hispanics, one wanting a new great wall and the other manipulating the "Taco-bowls" for power. Both of them have flipped on flagstone issues for voters, one did it to gain backing from the NRA by flipping on guns, while the other did it to gain support from the LGBT community and its' supporters. Both advocate trade restrictions, that historically, have not worked.
Both of this years' candidates advocate for authoritarian measures that manage to collectively violate almost the entire bill of rights. A country already has the largest prison population in the world, does not need more authoritarians. It was once written that,"The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws." If you take nothing else from this article however, let it be that the greatest common factor is that neither candidate genuinely cares about the common good, you, or anything but themselves. An authoritarian is still an authoritarian whether it paints its head red or blue.
There are other options.Better options by far. Gary Johnson, the Libertarian candidate, believes in expansion of freedoms and freeing the market. Jill Stein, the Green candidate has spoken to great length about halting global warming and putting an end to wars for oil. Both of these candidates have issues. They aren't perfect. But you don't have to vote for them. Look into other candidates. Maybe don't vote at all as a form of protest. Maybe vote for that one guy with a rain boot on his head and a beard. At least with any of those options there is a possibility of a brighter future. Voting continually for the lesser evil will do nothing but breed pure evil. Whoever you vote for, the last thing you should do is vote red or blue.
