"Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory." — Dr. Suess
Congrats on graduating high school! You are now on the road to adulthood... ugh! Summertime is honestly my favorite time of the year. No need to worry about school work, deadlines, waking up ridiculously early to make it to school on time! However, one of the greatest summers is the one right before you head off to college. A lot of you have jobs, which is great! But you also just want to hang out with your friends and family the whole summer before everyone heads off their separate ways. All of which can be done!
I'm going to tell you why this summer should be well spent with your friends; you all have your own lives now that will take you different places. Once you're in college, your life becomes all about school work and your job. As an upcoming sophomore in college, I feel like I haven't had time to do much because I work all the time! Just imagine if I was taking summer classes, then I'd really have no time for anything other than sleep... maybe! The summer before your freshman year of college should be cherished because it may be the last time you could feel like a crazy teenager with your childhood friends.
You will meet new people at school and so will your friends. Most people meet their best friends or even their soulmate's at college! Don't be jealous of your BFF finding a new BFF. Hometown friends will always be there for you, but you need to branch out! This summer before you even meet the people you'll be attending school with, cherish your hometown friends. Go on crazy adventures, have a late night bonfire, catch a nighttime movie! Do something to seize the summer! Soak up every little minute you can of your friends before you all head off your separate ways.
I commute to school, so I still see my family and other friends that have stayed home for school. But two of my best friends are in Connecticut and Florida for school. You bet I soaked up every bit of them I could before they left me! You get so use to seeing these people every day and then one day, you're all grown up and moving on with your life.
College means lots of work, internships, summer classes, blah blah blah. You may even study abroad during the summer! You have much more responsibilities than you did in high school. I can't stress this enough, use this time wisely with your friends. You may never get some of these moments back. Growing up sucks!
