Why LANY Should Be on Your Next Playlist

LANY, odds are you've probably never heard of this band or maybe you have... If you have I applaud you because they're the next big thing in music and if you haven't listened to them... Well, get on it!! My friend introduced me to LANY about 2 and half years ago and this may sound a little cliche but they truly have changed my life.

LANY is a band that consists of 3 talented musicians: Paul Klein who is the lead vocalist, plays the guitar and keyboard, Les Priest who also does vocals, plays the keys and guitar, and finally, Jake Gross who plays the drums and Roland SPD-SX. They're from Los Angeles, California which also plays a role in the name of their band. LANY stands for Los Angeles New York and it's pronounced Lay-nee and their sound is a combination of indie pop and alternative rock.

This band has plans to actually take over the world with their music; this year they're taking their music to Asia and Australia for the first time ever. In the past they toured major cities in North America, Europe and they've even had the chance to play at some major festivals such as Firefly, Lollapalooza, and Coachella. 2017 is a big year for this band they recently they released Part 1 of their tour and it's a long list; they will also be releasing their debut album sometime this year. Ticketmaster also named them New Music Favorite for 2017.

LANY has 3 EPs: kinda, Make Out and I Loved You. Each EP has songs that make you want to cry and they songs that just make you want to dance. Their music is mostly about love and heartbreaks which may come off very cliche but trust me it's worth listening to.

Last year I had the chance to see them perform twice. Once on their Make Out tour and a second time on their Kinda Tour.

When they perform all you're going to want to do is dance and sing along (trust me). The energy in the venue makes the night unforgettable and Pauls dancing just makes you smile. Their music is catchy and very easy to dance to; their lyrics are also very easy to relate to.

You can listen to LANY on Apple Music, Spotify, Soundcloud, and YouTube. I recommend you start by listening to

• quit

• WHERE THE HELL ARE MY FRIENDS

• youarefire

• like you lots

• yea, babe, no way

If you like them and you have the chance to go see one of their shows I strongly advise you do! The tickets are pretty cheap and their sound doesn't change when they sing live. If you do go take pictures but also make sure to put your phone down and enjoy the moment, enjoy the show and take it all in.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
