All of us college kids know how important it is to get the coveted "perfect internship" for the summer. It is something that is ingrained in your mind by your parents, advisors, and professors all your life, but it escalates once you hit college. You are told that you need to start as early as possible to get good skills and experience to put on your resume. We all want something to make ourselves stand out against the rest. It can be pretty intimidating. It can leave you with a lot of doubts, wondering if they will like you, if you are even qualified, or if you are good enough to be a functional part of the company. You want the company to have faith in you, but you also want a place that you feel good about working for.
The hit TV show, "Broad City," which follows the lives of two New Yorkers Abbi Abrams and Ilana Wexler, shows time and time again the difficulties of navigating the job market. It is very easy for us college kids to relate to these two that are attempting to find and maintain a career, just like we are trying to begin ours with an internship. They, like us, sometimes don't know exactly what they want, which is okay! It shows them searching for that perfect one, preparing to ace that interview (or at least trying to), taking defeat, and triumphantly finally getting a yes. All these stages of emotions and trial and errors they face, we face those same struggles and successes in the real world too. Getting an internship is a rollercoaster ride. You have to remember to stay positive and keep trying no matter how many times you are shut down. Eventually, the right match for you and the company will align if you keep at it!
