This poem is dedicated to those who were affected by the recent violence in the United States.
Violence is what built this country,
And what's done had to be done.
Our Founding Father's had to fight their way to freedom,
But what's our excuse now?
Slavery is what built this country,
Using people like objects
Because the stereotype of lazy
Still reigns true for America.
Rights are what built this country,
And rights are what destroy this country.
We the people
Must put an end to this.
We the people
Must learn to love and accept.
Learn from the past
To teach the present
And create the future.
Instead, we use the past
To throw blame on the present
And fear for the future.
I hope this poem proves how much we need to change as a country. The United States is having it's worst downfall yet, with the attack on the LGBTQ community and #BlackLivesMatter. We need to come together as a country and realize that all lives matter.
Some people live in this country solely to ruin the enjoyment of others lives because they are not satisfied with their own, and it's disgusting. We need to show support towards everyone and learn to accept the changes our beautiful country has allowed in order for us to grow.
We are the land of the free, the melting pot, and sadly, I'm not feeling that way anymore. Instead, I fear for my life and the future generations to come. If we don't act now, then we are setting up for a terrifying future.
