10 Local Businesses To Help During The Coronavirus Crisis In Lancaster County, PA

Lancaster County is known for the Amish and PA Dutch culture. A lot of people tend to forget, though, about all of the amazing local businesses in Lancaster!

Because of its rich culture, Lancaster is a great hub for local businesses, and even though we are in a Covid state of mind right now, there's no reason to not go out there and support these great businesses.

1. Salon 717

Even though you can't actually get your hair cut during the shut down, you can still support local salons by buying gift cards. Salon 717 is a personal favorite of mine, and they specialize in just about everything. No matter what your hair type is, Salon 717 has a solution. They've teamed up with an online site during the pandemic where you can purchase gift cards to help them out!

2. Lancaster Brewing Company

Lancaster Brewing Company, or LBC, is not only a local restaurant but also a local business that sources their product locally. It's a two for one deal! Check out their menu to order something for pick-up!

3. The Brickerville House

Family owned and operated, The Brickerville House has something for everyone on their menu! They are offering pick-up as well as delivery within a small radius. Check out their menu to place an order.

4. Mojo Asian Cuisine

There's no way this quarantine can be survived without Chinese food, and for Lancaster residents, Mojo is the answer. After having to close initially due to not receiving certain products due to the shut down, they have found substitute sources and are once again, open for take out!

5. Fox Meadows Creamery

Let's be real: this pandemic calls for lots and lots of ice cream as a coping mechanism, and Fox Meadows is the answer to that dilemma. They're offering a drive-in style experience to pick up your order as well as delivery.

6. Lancaster Cupcake

Their cupcakes are works of art, and they're just as tasty as they look! Lancaster Cupcake is available for carry-out and delivery. Just look at those cupcakes on the menu!

7. Lititz Family Cupboard

This restaurant is the definition of comfort food in Lancaster County. They're offering pick-up right now during the pandemic! Check out what tasty foods they have to offer by checking out their menu page!

8. Shady Maple

If you come to Lancaster and haven't visited Shady Maple, have you really been to Lancaster? Typically, Shade Maple is the best smorgasbord and buffet around, but of course, those types of operations have had to halt during the coronavirus. They're offering a to-go menu, though, featuring some of their classics that you can order and pick-up!

9. The Bulls Head and General Sutter

While you can't go out and dine on their beautiful patio right now, you can still order some of their delicious food for pick-up!

10. Lanc.Care

OK, I get it, this isn't technically a small business, but they're doing amazing things to support Lancaster's small businesses during this time. With 190 small businesses and counting, you can support your favorite local business through a few simple clicks. You can purchase a gift card to any of the businesses listed on the site, a lot of which are currently unable to operate and bring in an income. Click here to go to Lanc.Care's site.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
