Recently I purchased a Himalayan Pink Salt Lamp from my local health food store. Before my purchase, I did my research about these lamps and their supposed health benefits. I have to admit that I was a little skeptical about how a big block of pink salt with a light bulb in it could make noticeable changes in my health, but I was willing to give it a try.

Himalayan Pink Salt Lamps sell by the pound, and the larger your room is, the bigger lamp you will need. The man I talked to at the store said that a medium sized lamp would be perfect for a bedroom. So I bought my pink lamp, brought it home, plugged it in, and waited for it to change my life.

I read that the lamp provided many benefits such as: cleansing and deodorizing the air, reducing allergies and asthma symptoms, easing coughing, increasing energy levels, neutralizing electromagnetic radiation, helping with a better night's sleep, helping to improve mood and concentration, and reducing static electricity in the air.

I left my lamp plugged in for most of the day and eagerly awaited its effects. The first two days with my lamp on I didn’t really notice a change, but by the third day I noticed a huge change in my allergies.

I just moved into a new house; it’s an older house and there was a lot of dust to be cleaned when we got here. I was having terrible allergies from the dust that made me feel miserable. I was taking allergy medication to try to curb the constant sneezing, but by the third day with my Himalayan Pink Salt Lamp I was no longer sneezing or experiencing any discomfort.

Another benefit the lamp has that I can attest to is getting a better night's sleep. I figured that it would take some time to adjust to sleeping in a new house, but since having my lamp I’ve slept so well every night.

Every time my dad walks into my room he comments on how nice it smells, and he believes it’s because of the lamp! And I agree. My room has a constant clean and relaxing smell, much better than any smell provided by Febreze or Glade.

Again and again I have experienced the benefits of my new lamp, and I believe it would be the perfect lamp for a college dorm. The calming and relaxing light it omits is perfect for creating a comfortable space, plus it can make a small room smell wonderful! These seem like enough reasons to purchase one. But the lamp has even more benefits, and although I haven’t had to do much concentrating in my room this summer, I’m interested to see the lamp's affect on studying in my room when I head back to school. If you’re not sold yet just take a closer look at the lamps! They are a beautiful pale pink color and they are super unique.

The Himalayan Pink Salt Lamp is definitely the lamp you need to bring to school with you this fall. Its benefits have already impacted me, and I imagine the effects this lamp has will be even more beneficial in a college dorm room.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
