Last week, I wrote an article about the truth of girls and cowboys. Gentlemen, it's your turn for a dose of reality.
There are all these songs about life being so terrible with no way out or it's all roses and champagne. Drake seems to cover the spectrum. He puts out songs like "Energy" where life sounds awful but is able to make songs like "Best I Ever Had" and he sounds like the luckiest guy in the world to have this girl in his life. Who wouldn't want that feeling?
Guys, you can't have both "a lady on the streets and a freak in the bed." That'd be nice, but it doesn't always work that way and that's a tough expectation to live up to. Both sides end up with expectations the other doesn't feel is possible.
If you actually see yourself settling down with your own family and everything that comes with it, you're not going to get that from the girl you brought home from the bar. Good for you if that happens, but that's the exception to the rule. If you want someone to talk to and hold you when life gets rough (I know y'all need that too), it's not going to be the girl you have on speed dial when you're feeling lonely on weekends.
You want the girl who will make you food while you play a video game and keep you company. Or play with you, she may just be that awesome. You want the girl who is going to be there for you and be your safe haven when your family drives you crazy. You want the girl who's going to have your back, be faithful and treat you like the best because that's how you treat her.
It's not weak to want that life. It doesn't make you less of a man to go on dates with your girl instead of going out with your friends all the time. That's how it should be. Treat her the way you think she deserves, not what you think makes you look good to the guys.
"If you want crappy things to stop happening to you, stop accepting crap and demand something more." -- Cristina Yang, "Grey's Anatomy"
A medical soap opera may not be your cup of tea, but sometimes they have a point. If you want more, look for more, demand better. Wires get crossed and then everyone is saying, "There's no one left for me, I'm going to die alone." It doesn't have to be that way.
So which is it?
I'm more than just an option
Refuse to be forgotten
I took a chance with my heart
And I feel it taking over
or
My mother is 66 and her favorite line to hit me with is
Who the f*** wants to be 70 and alone?
Y'all don't even know what you want from love anymore
I search for something I'm missing and disappear when I'm bored
