Let’s face the facts. This years Super Bowl, featuring the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons, was an amazing game. To my right, you have the Atlanta Falcons, who have made it to the Super Bowl twice, but with no Super Bowl Victory. I am not even kidding when I say this, but the whole state of Georgia was counting on them to win because, let’s face it, this is the closest we have come to a title in a long time. Then to my left you have the New England Patriots with, I hate saying his name, Tom Brady. This team has now won five Super Bowl titles, and my favorite title is being the most hated NFL team in current history. Just saying, cockiness never gets you anywhere.
Aside from the tears and anxiety from this game, the real winner of Super Bowl 50 was Lady Gaga herself. With her flawless lyrics and incredible creativity, she put together one heck of a half time show. It all began with her standing on the roof in with hovering drones around her, portraying the colors of the American Flag. She sang the song God Bless America and This Land, and with all of the commercials that aired, that was the most beautiful portrayal of that song. Then all of a sudden, she jumps down, from the roof of the stadium, and is repelled down with chords.
It was like watching 007 featuring Gaga… Lady Gaga.
Do you hear the 007 theme song now? Wait, you’re wrong! Next thing you know she is performing all of her amazing classic hits like Poker Face, Edge of Glory and Born This Way. Her outfits were as gorgeous as ever, the choreography was spot on, like always because it’s Lady Gaga, and you could really feel the Super Bowl energy.
Now, a lot of her classics talk about unity, acceptance and love. The Super Bowl commercials this year definitely got political by acknowledging that America is beautiful because she is filled with those who are strangers. We make up a country not because of who was once here before, but because we are a melting pot of different cultures, ethnicities, religions and backgrounds. Why would you want to live in a country where everyone is the same, when you can live in America and know that your entire neighborhood makes up dozens of different cultures.
Staying on topic, her songs helped bring together the idea that regardless of what is happening around us, specifically in our country, there is no one that can tear us a part. When we have a community that loves each other, we create a country. When we create a country, we have a purpose. Regardless of what we are told to do, love, acceptance and unity is all we need to make it through some tough times.
Oh my Gaga was this everything we needed to hear. We may all be on The Edge of Glory, but we are all Born This Way, Baby. Her performance left me Speechless, but you know what? She did it for the Applause, for the Snapchat recordings on your Telephone and for the Paparazzi. We are no longer Dancing in the Dark as a country, because we are all beautiful Monsters, baby. To tell you the truth, this half time show was a Perfect Illusion to what truly matters…America.
