La Verne In Black & White:

Selection Six: Stefan

Part Six:

This set of photographs displays a young man who has a bright future ahead of him. He is someone who seems to have a good head on their shoulders which can correlate with the work ethic that I saw when I had the pleasure of taking him under my wing. He enjoys his college life as a freshman at the University of La Verne, because he feels like a part of the community already with his older brother already attending since last year being in the same grade as myself. As you will see throughout these photographs, Stefan has a great sense of awareness and where to look at when being photographed throughout the project.

Enjoy!

Photograph One: While staring upon the campus of University of La Verne, Stefan begins his journey as a student that attends college for the first time and sees what he can accomplish in the next four years.

Photograph Two: With the Athletic center also known as “The Tents” in the background, he stares and embraces the role as a college student who has a mission to complete.

Photograph Three: Feeling the night environment and atmosphere of the University of La Verne, he looks beyond to his future at the University of La Verne and wants to be leader.

Photograph Four: With goals in mind, Stefan grows anxious for the moments that he will be experiencing and to see how things will be play out with four years to look to forward to.

Photograph Five: Also, feeling stressed and uneasy based on the new experience, he will be in good hands as the faculty in the University of La Verne cherish every single student that has plans for the future.

Photograph Six: Pacing back and forth in his mind, he will be in for an adventure with his accompanying classmates who also have aspirations and dreams to become something bigger and better.

Photograph Seven: Thinking about the classes that he will be taking and what to expect from the college life, he carefully thinks to himself while twiddling his thumbs.

Photograph Eight: Never been in a situation like this before, Stefan becomes one with his thoughts and what he has to do in order to make his family proud and be where he wants to be.

Photograph Nine: The days have passed, getting closer towards a new year and still a freshman, he feels quite comfortable about his stance in his schooling at the moment.

Photograph Ten: Looking at the first semester passing by a like flash, he feels like an experienced student already.

Words from Stefan:

"This location of the second floor of the parking lot structure is pretty nice and calming

to me as the elevation from where I'm standing to the entire campus, I have quite the

view."

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
