If you haven't heard, some pretty interesting things have happened on Instagram this week. As we all know (or could easily guess), Kylie Jenner previously held the record on Instagram for the most liked picture with over 18 million likes. This picture was posted in February 2018 and was of her daughter, Stormi.
Kylie's record was recently broken when a random account called "world_record_egg" posted a picture of a pretty average egg with the caption "Let's set a world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram. Beating the current world record held by Kylie Jenner." The egg picture currently has over 43 million likes. Who would have thought that this egg would receive so many likes!
Kylie contributed to the fun when she posted a video of her cracking an egg onto the road captioned "Take that little egg."
We don't know who runs the egg account or what their next step is but we can assume that their work is not done. The account now has 6.5 million followers and is verified on Instagram. They even have a link to their merchandise in their bio. This account isn't the first one to try and beat the world record of likes, so it makes you wonder, what was it about the egg that made all those people like it?
Several celebrities were tweeting about the event, but it's fair to say there were no hard feelings. The whole thing can be summarized in one word: strange.
The egg is said to be named Eugene, and after the record was broken, he posted an Instagram story saying that "It doesn't end here though, we're only just getting started #egggang."
There has been confusion in who is running the account, and no one can seem to figure it out. An Instagram account named "Supreme Patty" claimed to be the one running it, but the egg account confirmed that this is false information and responded, "we're still anonymous. Fake news."
What does this egg account have in store? No one knows.
