To The 'Ghost'

An explanation would have been nice.

You are not a specific person or even a person at all, yet I hate you. You are a thing. A fad that has yet to fade out and is becoming more and more prominent on the dating scene. You are a coward and a user who preys on both the confident and meek just to show that you are "all-powerful." You are everyone's worst nightmare that is slowly becoming a waking reality and you have no intention of slowing down.

You are the ghost. The person who has been texting my best friend for weeks now, only to suddenly disappear without a reason. The person who spent an amazing date with my big brother, only to never talk to him again. The person who led my little sister on and broke her heart into a million pieces with no remorse. Instead of simply saying you were not interested, you dropped off the face of the planet, leaving the victim in a wake of questions and sadness. You have no gender and you certainly have no feelings.

Perhaps your heart was once broken by someone and you never recuperated from the pain and so you are scared to open your heart again. Or perhaps someone ghosted you and you are trying to assert power on a helpless date who just wanted to spend some time with you. Though both of these sound like viable options, the truth is that you are just a coward.

If I had a dollar for every time you have caused someone to cry, I would give you all the money so you would never have to hurt another person again. In a time where texting and social media was to help connect us, you have turned it into yet another weapon to hurt others. You have turned the new age of dating into a constant guessing game of "Will they text me back after we say goodbye?"

Dating during this time is hard as it is. With rampant one-night stands, it is incredibly difficult to tell if anyone really is seeing a person simply because they enjoy the other's company. Add the factor of people who love to ghost other's, and the dating scene just got a whole lot more complicated. But honestly, you are embarrassing yourself more than the person you are hurting.

You are speaking volumes without even saying a word. You may see your ability to just disappear as something that should be seen as impressive, but in reality, you are just showing how immature you are. Thankfully, though, you will be forgotten about. The people you have hurt will move on, realizing they are worth more than anything you gave or might have given them. My best friend, sister and brother will all find someone who treats them like they deserve. But you I am afraid will be miserable until you figure out that you are whats wrong and not the person you ghosted.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
