The fizzy health drink, known as Kombucha, created thousands of years ago, by the Chinese people, and nicknamed, “The Tea of Immortality,” is made by fermenting tea with good bacteria and yeast.

I know- it seems intimidating, and it doesn't sound very appetizing, but just bare with me. I promise it’s worth the hype.

Clearly, I am late to the Kombucha tea party, because it has been in the spotlight for quite some time. Health freaks all over the world have been raving about this trendy drink. Elle magazine even published an article about the beverage, concluding that drinking it regularly, or adding it to one’s daily skin care routine, can lead to glowing skin.

You might have to do a little more than drink some tea, in order to obtain clear skin. However, gut health absolutely influences many different aspects of health, including mental health, in a positive way. This is because the gut is basically at the center of of one’s immune system.

Full of probiotics and prebiotics, Kombucha promotes the increase of good bacteria in the gut, which can contribute to the promotion of a happy and health body. This drink helps to increase the amount of good bacteria within the gut. Believe it or not, some types of bacteria can actually be good for you.

In addition, Kombucha provides a natural energy boost, due to the to the fact that it is made from tea. I usually drink some Kombucha tea first thing in the morning, along with some water to stay hydrated. One thing to keep in mind about this drink, is that it does contain a small amount of alcohol, usually around .5%, but this can vary.

Another one of the many health benefits of this beverage, is detoxification. As an American, I frequently indulge in sugary, fatty, and processed foods. Kombucha really helps to get my gut back in tip top shape, helping me to feel fresh again. The tea has also been said to boost metabolism, leading to weight loss in some people. Although, it is important to remember that everyone’s bodies can react differently.

The tea is also a great source of antioxidants, which is why this drink is so effective in healing the body. Other extraordinary health benefits of Kombucha include help with digestion, pain relief, liver protection, the healing of gastric ulcers, reduction of bloating, the fighting of inflammation, and so much more. Although not enough scientific work has been done regarding Kombucha, the testimonies from individuals, since 221 BC, might just say enough about the health benefits of the drink.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
