Winter break is coming up, and what better way to avoid the cold than bundling up and watching Netflix for hours on end? I can't think of anything, so here are some of my favorite movies that are streaming now. Enjoy!

1. Silver Linings Playbook (2012)

I can't think of anything I don't like about this movie, but maybe I'm just blinded by the great acting and plot and...everything really. Bradley Cooper plays a man that was recently released from a mental hospital and wants to win his wife back. But in order to do so, he has to cooperate with Jennifer Lawrence, who plays a widow with similar problems that a friend tries to set him up with. She won an Oscar and Golden Globe for this movie! It's great; please watch it.

2. Holes (2003)

Ah Shia LaBoeuf before the "Do It!" video and crying at his own movies. I can't look at him without thinking about Even Stevens, but he's still pretty cool. Here you can see him and a bunch of other sweaty teenage boys digging holes in the desert! I know it doesn't sound great right off the bat, but it actually has a good message about family and friendship.

3. 13 Going On 30 (2004)

I seem to have a weakness for movies in which Mark Ruffalo falls in love. What a guy. Jennifer Garner plays Jenna, a 13 year old that wakes up 30 after wishing she could just hurry up and be an adult already. She comes to realize that popularity (especially when you're 13. ew) means nothing and can ruin the relationships that matter most to you. Also that Mark Ruffalo is a keeper and she was stupid not to notice that he loved her when they were kids.

4. Moonrise Kingdom (2012)

This quirky drama is about two 12-year-olds that fall in love and will do whatever it takes to escape their parents and scout troops to be together. Has a great cast, great cinematography, and is pretty funny if you don't mind a little silliness.

5. In Your Eyes (2014)

I don't think many people know about this movie which breaks my heart because I love it so much. It's about a woman in New Hampshire that one day realizes she has a mental link to a guy she's never met that lives in New Mexico. No, it doesn't make a lot of sense when you say it like that but neither do most movies. It's really cute though, perfect for people that love rom-coms (romantic comedies).

6. Anastasia (1997)

The main character Anya is really Anastasia, the long lost heir to the Russian throne, but does know that because lost her memory after being injured in an attempt to escape an attack on her family's castle. Luckily for her, a couple of con-men just think she's a look-a-like and are more than happy to reunite her with her grandmother. The animation isn't that great which bums me out a little, but I was 6 months old when it came out, so who am I to judge? Disney recently bought the rights and are planning a live-action remake (I won't get into how I really feel about that...) so Anastasia is technically a Disney princess now. She'll never beat Ariel in my eyes but she's pretty cool, so give her a shot. Or don't, just a recommendation.

7. While You Were Sleeping (1995)

Before this I'd only seen Bill Pullman as the president in Independence Day and, while great, I didn't see him as the rom-com type really. But lo and behold, he and Sandra Bullock are perfect for giving me the feels. She plays a CTA worker (she works at the Randolph/Wabash station in downtown Chicago) that is infatuated with a guy that rides the train everyday. After saving his life one day, she ends up at the hospital and is introduced to his family as his fiance. Too bad Bill Pullman's character is his brother and she starts falling for him...So yeah it's a little complicated but really cute!

8. Forrest Gump (1994)

Look at that, 6 Academy Awards! Those are Oscars, in case you didn't know (I didn't). Tom Hanks plays the titular character, a man sitting on a bus bench telling strangers his life story. Yes, that's a little weird, but he's a good guy and probably has no idea that's not socially acceptable. Anyway, Forrest fights in Vietnam, repeatedly gets dismissed by the girl of his dreams, and dances with Elvis while managing to stumble through several iconic moments in US history. I can't really say exactly why I like this one so much, maybe Forrest is just likable and you want to see things turn out well for him.

9. What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993)

THIS is what Leonardo DiCaprio should have won an Oscar for, but I wasn't alive at the time and they wouldn't have let me vote anyway so I'll shut up. Pretty boy Johnny Depp plays the titular character whom has to care for his morbidly obese mother and younger, developmentally disabled brother (Leo) with some help from his two sisters. This one's pretty dramatic and made me feel things, but teaches a lesson about what it means to be family.

10. Good Will Hunting (1997)

This one can be a tear-jerker for some, but either way it's one of the best movies I've ever seen. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck wrote it together and play a troubled genius and his best friend, respectfully. Will has never lived up to his potential but agrees to work with an MIT professor and see a psychologist (Robin Williams) so he can avoid being sent to jail. I don't want to ruin it so I won't give anymore away. The film received nominations for 9 Oscars, ultimately winning for Best Screenplay and Williams won for Best Supporting Actor, so hopefully that's enough to make you believe it's amazing.

11. Underworld (2004)

Ok yes, this movie has vampires and werewolves but none of them sparkle or fall in love with infants, so try not to jump to any Twilight-fueled conclusions about it. Selene is a Vampire warrior who's main priority is killing Lycans (werewolves) until she starts falling for a human they're tracking and later bite. Will she kill him or betray her clan to save his life? Oooo the world may never know. Jk they're working on the fifth installment in the series so it's not that hard to guess. Still nice to see her shooting people and being all vampire-y though.

12. Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)

I don't know anyone that doesn't like this movie. Ferris is next-level tricky, managing to fake sick and goof around all over Chicago with his girlfriend and best friend. His little sister and principal are onto him but he's way too smooth to let them ruin his day off. Fun fact: Easy A references this a couple times, such as Olive's singing in the shower and sing/dance number at the end. Both are great movies with characters that talk to the camera.

13. One Day (2010)

Had to end it with another rom-com! In this one, Anne Hathaway and that guy she's kissing on the cover become best friends and we see them on the anniversary of the day they met for the next several years. There are lots of ups and downs in their relationship but, hey, love is love and Anne does a pretty good British accent.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
