With the new year rolling in, this is a great time to stop and reflect on the things we're thankful for and the things we are glad we don't have to live without. I have had some time to stop and be extremely thankful for the friends I couldn't live without who have helped get me through the year. My friends are each one of a kind and all of us together make one motley crew with our differing personalities. The way to describe them best, however, would be to consult the characters from one of the biggest animated movies of the year, "Inside Out." Truth be told we all have a bit of each of these characters in us, but it's still fun to see just who you and your friends might be most like!
ANGER
This friend could be known as the hot-head of the bunch. You'll probably see them catching the most road rage, caring the least what others think, speaking their mind the most, and having the shortest fuse of all of your friends. Though they may be quick to get feisty and/or sassy, you know this comes in hand when you need a loyal friend to back you up. For all of the heat you catch from them yourself (with love, of course), you know that they'll be there to hand it right back out (with not so much love) to the person who messes with any of their friends. Just be sure to stay on their good side.
DISGUST
Though the name implies something you wouldn't want to be called, this friend is nothing short of fabulous. They always know what's happening and will be sure to be a part of it somehow. They are one to be on their A-game at all times, and that goes for the friends they surround themselves with as well. If you have a friend with the personality of Disgust, you can expect to hear the blunt truths whenever you do or don't ask for them. But no worries because they only want you to be the best possible you, and this can go in your favor whenever you need an honest opinion on anything and everything. You know that even though this friend loves you very much and is also extremely loyal, that won't stop them from being bold enough to point out the flaws to help get you on the right track. Welcome the suggestions this friend gives because it is always out of love.
FEAR
This good friend will take you on a whirl-wind of worry, but it's only because it was ingrained in them to be that more cautious friend from the very beginning. While everyone else may be ready to jump straight into whatever crazy adventure is on their mind, this friend won't go for it until after exhausting the list of all the possibilities of what could go wrong or why it may not be the best idea--and maybe not even then. They'll be sure to let you know things like how maybe high-speed chasing while driving in the rain or texting this or that person isn't the best thing for you... and then some. Now this doesn't mean that this friend doesn't know how to have fun or let loose when appropriate, it just means that you've got a built-in conscience and consultant for all the times you're own conscience just wasn't enough. This person is always there when you're in a rut and need help finding a way out. So even though you may not always understand every one of their hang-ups, remember this friend cares about you too much to let you be stupid (at least not all the time), and that's a very good thing.
SADNESS
You can count on this friend to be the most nonchalant about almost anything, and to probably be the biggest realist you've ever met. When you need a friend to help you see all possible practical outcomes of a situation or all points of view, you've got one; whether you want to hear it or not. But you can't help but love this person for just how much they care about others. They love and live with all they've got. When they're happy, they're HAPPY. When they're sad, there's no hiding they're sad. Though they obviously may not be sad all the time, you know that even in those times when they aren't always feeling one-hundred percent, they are still trying to make sure everyone else is. Appreciate them for their selfless attitude, but don't forget that they need some pick-me-ups from their good friends every now and then, too!
JOY
If you've ever seen "Inside Out" (and I really hope you have), you'd know that throughout the movie we would like to think that Joy is the one that holds all of the "emotions" together, but in the end come to find that that is so far from the truth. Even though Joy is the one who tries her best to keep everyone cheery and happy and tries to simply enjoy life to the fullest, she couldn't get by without the help from all of the other "emotions." The same applies to the friend we would be talking about here that you know to be most like Joy. This friend only wants their friends to be happy and the very best they can be. The friend most like Joy wants everyone to enjoy each others company and have a good time, and loves their close friends abundantly. Though they have such strong desires for things to go cheerfully and happily as they imagine all the time, the reality is that life isn't always full of sunshine. No one is perfect, and life is tough. That is why luckily, when it is, this person knows that they have the support and love of a few good friends to get by.
