You Know You're From Stow, OH If...
Stow Schools

You know the High School is apparently built on a swamp.

Everyone that goes to Stow-Munroe Falls HS is always told about the "swamp monster" and we are all slowly sinking. Even people that didn't go there know about this phenomenon.

You grew up playing at Skip Park.

It is still there! I, and about every other child I know, grew up playing at Skip Park. It is a huge, all wooden, playground that was the best place in the world for any child. There were secret hiding places and coves everywhere, and aluminium slides that would get super hot in the summer.

You take your dogs (or just go play with dogs) at Bow Wow Beach.

SO MANY DOGS! This area, that use to be a swimming area for humans, is the perfect place to take your dog and play on a hot day. I love running through Silver Springs and taking a detour around the pond just to look at all the cute little pups.

You travel to other cities to find entertainment.

There is not that much to do in Stow, so we all go to surrounding cities to find something to do, eat, hike, etc. The most popular places outside of Stow are of course Blossom and/or The Valley (LOL).

You end up telling people you are from the Akron area.

Know one seems to know where Stow is, so you tell people you are from Akron or Cleveland, then they just end up talking to you about Lebron James...

You were involved, or know about, the Stow/Falls rivalry.

Do the terms #trashfalls or #rapestow ring a bell? If so, then you're from Stow. When I was in HS, this rivalry was HUGE and it got very out of hand. Fights would start, cars would be damaged, and the trash talk was unreal. Apparently today it is a fun rivalry, but the rival games are always something to look forward to.

You've been referred to as a "Stowbilly".

Idk man.... we've all been called this at least once in our lives.

You either have been involved in or taught Safety Town.

Safety Town is a little town that you can ride bikes or walk through. It was suppose to teach you outside safety (crossing the street, stop signs, street lights, bicycle safety, etc.), but I'm pretty sure we all just pretended we ruled that town and just ran around aimlessly.

You have Swensons in your own backyard!

This has to be the best thing about Stow, we have Swensons!! This is the place to go after games, with your friends, or when you're hungry late at night. You've also probably eaten this is the bed of someones pick-up truck in the summer (at least I have).

Stow will forever be HOME.

No matter where we end up, Stow, OH will always be home for us. We've made memories here, made the best of friends here, and can proudly say we grew up in the best place.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
