You Know You Are The Youngest Sibling When...

Being the youngest child definitely comes with some undefined territory. It has its perks at times, but it also comes with some negative consequences. You know you are the youngest child when incidents like this happen to you.

  • 1. You apply to multiple schools only to choose the same one your three older siblings attend.
  • 2. Growing up, you were dragged to every single sporting event your brother or sister had because you were too young to be left alone.
  • 3. Since you did go to all of their games, the only clothes you wore were either hand-me-downs or clothes representing their travel sports team.
  • 4. You are constantly the center of the jokes your brothers make because you are the easiest to pick on.
  • 5. The first child always says they are the favorite, but really, we all know the youngest is spoiled the most.
  • 6. You get away with the most because your parents realize that the first children turned out fine so somehow the last will too.
  • 7. Your older sister “moms” you when your actual mother is not around.
  • 8. People will not mess with you because they know you have intimidating older siblings to back you up.
  • 9. On family vacations you always get the last shower, so the water is cold.
  • 10. The teacher saw your last name at the beginning of each school year, and immediately judged you based off the performances of those before you.
  • 11. You always got accused of being a “tattletale” whenever your siblings got in trouble for picking on you.
  • 12. People tend to compare you to your older siblings and their success and expect just as much, if not more from you.
  • 13. You are allowed to do things at a younger age than your siblings were.
  • 14. You are able to learn lessons from them.
  • 15. It is easy to let your older siblings carry most of the weight around the house by saying that you don’t know how to do something.
  • 16. Usually they say the youngest is the most laid back and fun because they have less responsibilities.
  • 17. You are forced to sit in the back seat until you are able to drive.
  • 18. When you constantly hear them say, “Well back in the good year of 1994...” (or any year that precedes the one you were born in).
  • 19. You were convinced you were delivered to the house by a FedEx truck until you were eight.
  • 20. Some of the best memories you have are from when the oldest sibling was left in charge.

Growing up as the youngest child of four was more like a hodgepodge of emotions. Some days it was not always the best being the youngest, but most days, I would not trade being the youngest child for anything! After all, we are said to have the best humor and be more fun!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
