Get To Know Long Time Coming

Get To Know Long Time Coming
Christian Long

A triple threat, literally. Triplets from a small town in Mississippi are making a name for themselves. Christian, Embry, and Logan Long are three of the most unique and fun individuals you will ever meet. Get to know them here in this interview with them!

1. Where did your name originate from?

Our first band name that we started out when we were ten was Triple Trouble. Over years we finally decided that we really outgrew that name. When we were thirteen we were playing with our youth minister, Keith Harris, a lot, and he picked two names for us to choose between. They were “182 Junction”, because we live off of Highway 182, and the other name he just thought fit us well which was, “Long Time Coming.” We all decided Long Time Coming fit us best, because for us as a group playing since we were 10 has really been a long time coming, and we have had that name since.

2. What got you to write songs? (childhood trauma, happiness, money)

We have always been used to covering other artists songs, so we decided it was about time to start writing our own stuff, so we just started writing a year or two ago. When something I (Christian) think of that sounds really cool and catches my attention comes to my head I just immediately start writing lyrics down. Sometimes I’ve written a song over a period of months, and some other times I wrote one in one sitting. It just depends on what I think of at the time.

3. Can you remember the first time you wrote a song?

The first song I (Christian) recall writing is called, “Song Like a Sweet Song.” This song took me a few months to develop and make into a good song. This is hands down the best song I’ve written on my own. We started writing this song when Logan came up with a catchy melody, and that’s where I took over and started putting lyrics to the music. This song just talks about how a girl reminded me of a “sweet song” every time I heard a certain song, and how I could never stop thinking about her when that song was on. I wrote this song about a year ago, and it’s still one of my favorites to this day.

4. Who gave you the support to keep writing in the beginning? Who did you play the early songs for?

In the beginning, my parents and my grandparents were the ones who always pushed us hard to write our own stuff, and they still push us to write today. We really never played any of the first songs I’ve written, though. I (Christian) get nervous people will judge my own songs, but I know eventually I will need an outside opinion on them. We have played all the songs we have recorded, and we have played the ones that we have co-written on our newest EP. I intend to eventually to play and record my own songs soon.

5. What do you feel like when you play your songs and people applaud? Is it an affirmation or an irritation?

There is no better feeling than knowing that people applaud at the end of our songs and shows. When people applaud and tell us that we did a good job, it just says to me that people really do enjoy our music. It’s just awesome to know that people support us and our music.

6. Which song have you written is your favorite and why?

I (Christian) didn't write this song on our own, but we co-wrote it with the producer of our EP Casey Combest. The name of the song is City Lights. I really like this song, because it tells the story of a boy going off to college and leaving home. Not only did he leave home, he left the girl he cared about home as well. We can really relate to this song, and that’s why we love it.

7. What's the weirdest thing that's ever happened to you while working on a song?

The strangest thing that has ever happened to me was one time when I wrote a song, and I recorded it on my phone, and I soon realized that the song sounded just like a popular song released already.

8. Which song did you have the most trouble writing?

.The song we had the most trouble co-writing was Mississippi Life. We didn’t change too much of it, but the parts we did change were difficult to apply to what we wanted to do with the song.

9. What are your main inspirations and greatest influences?

Our main inspirations come from our everyday lives, and a lot of time we spend with girls. Most of our influences come from different instructors we have had over the years. We have had experience playing Classic Rock, Gospel, Bluegrass, and Country. We tried to put all of the different genres that make us who we are into our music.

10. What's your motto or the advice you live by?

Our main motto is that if we mess up we learn from our mistakes and move forward. Most of everything we have learned over the years has come from learning from our mistakes. We don’t want to make mistakes, but everyone makes mistakes at some point in their life. Mistakes help to make us into who we are not only as artists but as people. You just have to learn from those mistakes and prepare yourself with everything you do as good as possible.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
