Get To Know Me: Jordynn Lynn Cogbill

Hey Y'all! My name is Jordynn Cogbill and I'm a new writer for "The Odyssey" at Georgia Southern University. I am a 20 year old soul andI am a sophomore studying exercise science. I love all basic things like Grey's Anatomy and Starbucks, but I promise that there is more to me if you just read on!

I've called Marietta, Georgia home for 19 long years of my life. I was originally born in New Mexico, but my parents decided that the south was a better place to raise a lady. I am the oldest sibling of 5 kids, 3 boys and 2 girls. Because I am the oldest, my friends could describe me very much as the "mom" of our friend group!

My family is a very important part of my life and they have always valued the idea of giving to those less fortunate. Because of this awesome example set for me, it has driven me to chose my major of exercise science so I can fulfill my dreams to help people!

After I graduate with my bachelor's in exercise science, I am going to attend graduate school to get my doctorate in physical therapy. My dream is to be able to open my own physical therapy clinic and subcontract under world organizations under such as the United Nations. Then me and my employees could travel the world and provide physical therapy for those in need, but cant't afford it.

This past fall I became a sister of the Zeta Upsilon Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma. It was one of the best decisions I made, besides the decision to attend Georgia Southern. I cannot even begin to name the countless blessings being a sister has brought me in my short 4 months. I am so grateful for the new friends, love, and sense of belonging that I have received from joining.

I am a very sarcastic person who loves witty jokes. My spirit animal is definitely Cristina Yang from Grey's Anatomy. Even though I sometimes seem a bit harsh, I genuinely care about everybody I know or meet, regardless if we are close friends or not. I value respect, reputation, family, and education. I am always willing to lend a listening ear to anybody and offer advice when it is needed. I am a firm believer that you control your future and so there are no excuses when it comes to taking control of your life.

I love writing about issues not only affecting me, but my community, nation, and the world. I am not afraid to say what I think and explain my reasoning. I do not let controversial topics scare me because I think that talking about these issues are the way to solve them.I hope that this getting to know me did not scare you away, and you'll give my other articles a chance! I have been so blessed to be able to attend such an amazing school as Georgia Southern and even more blessed to be able to write and share my opinions with all of you!

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

I'm an anthropology major, and I love every minute of it. I couldn't tell you why, but I guess there's just something about studying different lifestyles that absolutely fascinates me. But anthropology majors definitely have our weird sides, especially when you go to a school that is filled with mostly Business and Bio majors. But us weirdos definitely have a lot in common, specifically these 16 things.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.
