I Know It's OK To Be Single
Tressa Harings

Listen, to anyone out there who has said its ok for me to be single or anyone who has sent me some Facebook status about how the right guy is just waiting for me, I want you to know something. I KNOW it's ok to be single. Why is being single made out to be such a bad thing?

As if my being alone means I'm sitting at home somewhere every night crying myself to sleep. It's ok to be single. In fact, I embrace it! I love my life! I have never been one who has wanted to settle. Don't get me wrong, someday I'll meet the right guy and I'm sure we will live happily ever after. But am I searching for some prince charming to come sweep me off my feet? No way! I have so much left to do in my life. I want to work those menial jobs to understand my reserve and to appreciate working for my money. I want to work at a ranch somewhere in the mountains or be a performer on a cruise ship somewhere exotic. And when the time is right, I will settle down and be completely content knowing I was the person I wanted to be. I am learning so much being alone. I am learning about myself, my strengths and weaknesses, and how I deserve to be treated when the right guy does come along.

To all of you who think being single means being alone. I think you have a lot of learning to do. It's ok to be single, taken or anything in between. Be whoever you want, as long as you are happy with who that is.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?
