Members of the University of Nevada Knights of Columbus College Council serve alongside parish volunteers to cook breakfast to parade-goers of Reno's Hot August Nights nostalgic car show.
On Sunday, Aug. 6, volunteers gathered at 8 a.m. to prepare food for a crowd of at least 50 parishioners, including university students and locals. Of the Knights, Dillon Aberasturi and myself took part. Parishioners taught us much about cooking!
Breakfast included scrambled eggs, sausage, pancakes, corn and beef hash, and fruit, served with coffee and orange juice; students Jhony Habbouche and Josh Lewis prepared extra dishes, including pastries and quiche. All was met with great delight.
At 10 a.m., parade-goers gathered outside on the patio of Our Lady of Wisdom Newman Center to watch. The parade, which began with a host of retro emergency vehicles, followed with an hour-long stream of polished, bright, and glistening vehicles decades-old, some from as far back as 1902. Both onlookers young and old enjoyed the show.
