Recently, I started a new job at Chipotle. Everything was unfamiliar and nerve-wracking. Fortunately, my coworkers were all super accommodating and kind. Disclaimer; I really love my job. One day, right after our afternoon peak (the period of time that we are most busy) I had restocked the line and made sure that everything was ready for the people coming in for the evening shift. I was way ahead of schedule, probably because we were lucky enough to have a relatively slow day, so I started washing dishes. Another coworker came over and asked me if I would like some help. I accepted because I knew we would get done faster and proficient work is key. While he was helping we began to talk about life and share random tidbits of information about ourselves. I decided to ask him what his favorite color is. He prefaced his answer by saying, you probably don't know it but it's called cerulean. I'm pretty sure I completely freaked out.
Why did I freak out? 1. That's my favorite color. Ever since I was in the crayon stage of life; I always chose it and still do. It's a very rich, pure, vibrant color... in my opinion. It's like the fuschia of pink. 2. Cerulean is such a specific color that not a lot of people think about or know of. 3. I've never met someone say that to me before, I say it all the time...
But anyway, that happened. Afterwards the color seemed to pop up more and more and we had conversations in reference to it. As the summer came to an end we joked (I mean, I was definitely going to do it but it was talked about sort of offhandedly) that we would send each other the crayon for the other's birthday.
Then we each returned to school. I am honestly so glad that I was given the honor of knowing of meeting someone so open and thoughtful. He is truly a great person and I know that he would do anything that he could to help anyone out.
Recently, amidst the chaos of the first week of classes, I got a notification that someone had posted on my wall. I looked and it was from him. I was unsure what to expect. A lot of my friends share random links and pictures to my timeline so, my expectations were probably along those lines. This friend did not share a link, but he did share a photo. He shared a picture of our favorite color and posted on my Facebook wall. The post was a picture of the crayon and a nice little message wishing that I was doing well. It touched me more than I can ever relay.
I am always astounded when people reach out and let you know that you are a relevant person. I am very happy to be able to interact and meet so many people, through working and schooling. Interactions are so cool. I am honored that people think of me.
