I’ll be the first to tell anyone that I’m a dog person, I have a St. Bernard named Timmy who I’m still convinced is a baby despite the fact that he is now over 200 pounds. I mean cats are cool and all, but they just don’t have the same appeal to me as dogs.
Anyway, unlike my friends, haven’t been sucked into the world of "Pokemon GO" (yet), and I’ve been playing these two games, which coincidentally are about cats. Named "KleptoCats" and "Neko Atsume." Honestly, I have to say I’m a little enthralled by the amount of time I’ve been spent playing these games and decided to do a review on both games I’ve played.
"KleptoCats" and "Neko Atsume" are both free on the App Store if you want to check them out.
"KleptoCats" begins with you selecting your cat companion who has a knack for stealing things. You send off your adorable animated cat — with a clever name and description about the cat — out and wait for it to come back with a quirky item that automatically decorates your empty apartment.
That’s really all "KleptoCats" has to offer at the moment.
You can also pet your cats to increase their happiness meter, even though it doesn’t help shorten the amount of time it takes for them to find things, nor does it affect the quality of the goods they do manage find. There is a mini game you can play that involves mindlessly tapping on-screen bubbles for coins while you wait a ridiculously long time for your cat to retrieve an item. It’s basically a constant cycle of your cat retrieving items then you bringing up its happiness with treats and affection.
Essentially, "KleptoCats" was an awesome concept that was brought to the market too quickly in order to compete with "Neko Atsume." Unfortunately, it definitely lacks the elements that made "Neko Atsume" such a hit with players.
The general concept — having cats retrieve little trinkets for you — isn’t a bad idea. However, once the item is in your room, there’s nothing else to really do with them except look at it. You can’t even re-position your collection to your liking. Unlike its predecessor, "Neko Atsume" has a description for every item in the game, including food, toys and the awesome gifts your cats bring home for you once you’re friends.
"Neko Atsume’s" cats are more interactive, this was awesome in my opinion, and it was like my own personal virtual cat. These cats can play with toys, nap and sometimes they just lie around and stare at you in that creepy way cats from ancient Egypt have perfect for thousands of years.
"KleptoCats" isn’t bad, I just wish there were more to it. I still play the game but hopefully, later on down the road the game is upgraded to its full potential! But for now I’m going to continue to play these games because they’re cool and as much as I hate to admit, cats rule.
