In a recent interview, KISS vocalist Gene Simmons recently stated that he is "looking forward to the death of rap." He looks forward to the "return" of lyrics and melody, as he described rap as "just talking."
It takes a special kind of ignorant fool to marginalize an entire genre of music. But it is especially disappointing when someone from as beloved of a band as KISS goes and reduces an entire genre of music and social movement as "just talking." Now, don't get me wrong, KISS is a widely beloved band that is remembered for its catchy anthemic rock and pop metal hits. But they are just as famous for their flashy, over-the-top live performances. Is it truly right for the leader of a band known for its style over its substance to criticize hip-hop as fluffy nonsense?
it is in poor taste, Mr. Simmons, to scoff at an entire genre of music, especially one as socially conscious and culturally significant as hip-hop.
