To those that don't know, St. Patrick's Day is a BIG day for college kids. It is a lot different than the St. Patrick's Day that you'd celebrate with your families, eating Irish food and drinking Irish beers and beverages. Or if you're like me and are 100 percent Italian, finding an Irish friends who will let you come into their home for the night and embark on all of these foreign endeavors. Now in college though, St. Patrick's Day holds a TOTALLY different meaning, a meaning I particularly like better. In college, everyone is Irish. I repeat, no matter what race, gender, nationality, heritage, age, class, ethnicity, and beyond, we all wake up on March 17 and suddenly are 100 percent Irish!
St. Patrick's Day is so important to us new Irishians that we can dedicate up to a week for it, sometimes even more and always take it very seriously. And it's not just celebrating the one day in a nice home at night, but we actually go all out and dress head to toe in green. All around campus, you see girls and boys looking like little leprechauns, and we are all so genuinely happy! I only hope for the day everyone can become a loud ole pasta lovin' Italian, and every other nationality out in the universe. I know it always gets me excited.
St. Patrick's Day being on a Friday this year may seem like a burden, but this actually means some people (unfortunately not me since I end classes at 5 p.m.) get to celebrate an extra day! Darties all day, parties all night, and repeat! The first time I visited Michigan I was here over St. Patrick's Day weekend, and I couldn't believe all of the people getting up and at it every morning all the way up until night. Props to them and I guess now to me. I'm very excited because I even have a new shirt I ordered from Amazon, with the little Lucky Charms cereal leprechaun. :)
Decked out in green, drinks being green beer, no matter if you're at a frat or bar, have no fear! You will have fun and enjoy with your friends, don't think about dressing for the chilly air because the cold will never end!
There's a little short poem for you. Wishing joy and safety to all my fellow one-day pass leprechauns out there!
P.S. Try to think of a original Irish funny insta caption. ;)
