We need More People Like LeBron James

More millionaires should take a page out of LeBron James's Handbook.

I feel if it's necessary for me to preface this by admitting that I literally know close to nothing about LeBron James. I honestly thought he always played for the Lakers until my boyfriend looked at me as if I had three heads. So when LeBron James started trending on Twitter I thought it would be funny if I was able to name plays (I don't know if that is a thing but it sounds sporty) or something of that sort for him.

Then I read about his I Promise school and honestly out of some liberal's wet dream. He literally did everything right. Every decision for this school was calculated and strategic with the hopes that these students would get better chances than America was willing to offer them.

James made his school a public school. This allows everyone in Akron equal access and ensures that it won't take away from public funding the way a charter school does. It also ensures the school to keep up with the mandated federal laws and forces the school to be transparent and accountable for their decisions. His deliberate decision in making his school a part of the public education system is HUGE.

It doesn't end there. James's is somehow the only person in the world who understands that the stability of a child's home life is paramount to that child's successes. I know what a radical idea that your parents' income and decisions may play a role in your life. But he doesn't stop with simply acknowledging that relationship. Instead, he continues and provides services to families ranging from an on-site food bank to career assistance.

This finally begs the question: Did we really need James to do this? I mean is it not sad that we have to hope that well-meaning celebrities will give back to their cities because their government does not give two shits about them. Our education cannot and should not rely on the hopes of millionaires who might want to give back. Our government needs to do better.

But until that happens I hope more people take a page out of James's book and help others by giving them the chance to become great too.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
