I've always heard the crazy stuff that goes through a waitress' life, but I never thought I would become a waitress. I have only been a waitress for less than a year and I can tell you that the waitress life is a good paying headache. Here, I will tell you some real confessions of waitressing that you may not have thought about.
People who think we are a bar
Look, I get it, you just want to sit and talk to an old friend with some jumbo margaritas. I understand that, but you cannot get mad at us for telling you to order something. That is just a rule we have to follow. It is also very rude when we are trying to close or get off a shift and you're just sitting there, slurping up alcohol. No offense, but go to a bar where it is actually okay to drink excessively and talk for hours.
Thinking it is our fault the food is taking long
We are just the waiter. We do not cook the food. If it is busy, you're food is going to take long. You are not paying for fast food, are you? McDonald's is down the street. You have no idea how many times I have been stiffed for the food taking a long time and having absolutely no control over it.
When the customer is ordering or demanding before I can speak
"Hi, my name is Sy-"
"Large queso and a diet coke."
I find it rude when I can't even introduce myself to my customers. Especially if they ask someone to get me and they don't know my name. I also can't stand when customers demand for things before I can get to it. I hear, "Straws" as I am still laying drinks down on the table.
Customers who like to hit on you
I'm pretty sure I am too young for you and you smell like a married man. I will be kind to you till you leave so I may get my flirt tip, but honey, do not try to flirt with young waitresses. This is not the place to do that.
Large parties that do not want to pay attention
I understand you are just trying to celebrate, but you came to a restaurant for a reason other then to sit, am I right? Let us do our job and serve you. We are only trying to make sure you all get a drink and a meal. Do us a favor and just pay attention for 5 seconds.
Beside having ups and downs, thinking about how table 104 never got extra ranch or the three glasses you dropped while in a rush, it is really nice to make people happy and have a good experience. We honestly do want you to come back. We love regular customers. Just think about us too, eh? We get paid less than three dollars an hour. A small tip wouldn't hurt.
