A Little Kindness goes a long way

In the past eight months, the world has become a darker place, and that breaks my heart to say that. With all the cruelty and violence occurring nowadays, I wanted to share a story that is none of those things. I want to share a story of kindness, something that this world needs at the moment.

A week or so ago, I was sitting at my job, and it was my fourth hour of a long, seven-hour shift. I was bored out of my mind and very tired. It was a pretty slow day and not a lot of people were shopping. A few minutes later, this older lady went through my line. I didn't speak much at first until she started to talk to me.

She started off by saying that I was very pretty and that I would make a lucky man very happy. I smiled and told her "thank you and that was very sweet." She then noticed the necklace that I wore, which has the first initial of my boyfriend's name. She then asked, what my necklace meant and why I had it.

I began to tell her the story behind it. The last time I saw my boyfriend was January 12, 2017, which was seven months ago when he left school due to health issues. I bought the necklace, so in a way, even though he wasn't physically at school, he was in a way with me. I've worn the necklace every day since the last time I've seen him.The woman looked at me and said "You two have something special that is not as common nowadays. You two really love each other and that's special, cherish it. I can tell how much you love him and how much he loves you."

We chatted for a few more minutes as I finished up her order. I told her to have a great day and handed her the receipt. She sat there for a second and then said I want to something really nice for you. She then took out her wallet and took out a hundred dollar bill. I told her that I couldn't take this, and she said I want you to.

She then continued to say, I want you to buy yourself a really pretty outfit for when you see your boyfriend for the first time. I got very teary eyed over this gesture and couldn't thank her enough. She left, and a few days later I ended up getting a very pretty romper that I'll wear when I see my boyfriend for the first time.

To the lady who did that kind gesture, thank you so much. It meant the absolute world to me, and I can't express my gratitude. You showed me that there is some kindness still left in this world. The world may be a little dark right now, but there is still some kindness left in the world. Maybe you can be the kindness that this world needs because that's what I aspire to be.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
