"Gossip Girl" took the world by storm during its on-air glory days, and it still remains in our hearts as one of the most binge-worthy Netflix shows of all time. "Gossip Girl" gave viewers all the possible stories lines and love triangles we all craved, with twists and turns throughout that no one saw coming. The core personalities of the characters are so relatable, even though the net worth of these Upper East Side high schooler were, not-so-much. Realistically, the over-dramatized show was a bit of a stretch, to say the least, but the lessons that were always learned the hard way and the back and forth from BFFs to frenemies is all too real.
Everyone likes to play the "which character am I?" game, so here are some traits of the main characters of "Gossip Girl," so you can decide who's the Serena in your friend group, and who's the Chuck.
1. Serena Van Der Woodsen
Serena is the natural "It Girl," she doesn't even have to try, but we can't even hate her for it because she's just so likable! She's genuinely nice to everyone she meets until they give her a reason not to be. Serena was the first one to give outsider Dan Humphrey a chance, and doing so turned out to be one of the best decisions she's ever made.
She's the life of every party and though her party girl tendencies have gotten her into some trouble a time or twenty, they've made her who she is and she's coming to except that. Serena's had to overcome a lot of her own struggles throughout the series but proves to herself that she's more than just a pretty face who gets places because of her name.
She is constantly looking out for her friends and doing everything in her power to help them whenever they're in need. Serena may claim the spotlight, but she's also the biggest team player.
2. Blair Waldorf
Blair somehow managed to claim a special place in everyone's hearts, even though looking back, she was the worst of them all. She is a Queen there is no doubt about it, but she is also her own worst enemy and that is why so many came to love her.
It's so easy to focus on what we don't have, that we completely lose sight of all of the wonderful things we do have, and that was what happened to Blair time and time again. She holds herself to the highest possible standard, she has to be "the best" constantly, and that mindset would make anyone a little bit crazy so we forgive her for all of the bad because the good has by far outweighs it.
There's nothing Blair Waldorf can't do, and there's nothing she wouldn't do when it comes to her friends. Deep down her friends mean the most to her in the world, they are her family, and no matter what she has going on, she'll always make time for them. Everyone could use a Blair Waldorf in their corner.
3. Chuck Bass
Chuck Bass is another character we just can't get enough of. When we first meet him season one he doesn't have a care in the world. He's been buying his happiness his entire life and he doesn't foresee anything that could possibly rain on his Chuck Bass parade.
Chuck is the character that we see grow the most throughout the show. As long as a ride it was for Chuck, and it was, he grows up from the arrogant, disrespectful rich kid, to a mature, responsible man who takes accountability for his actions. We all know someone who reminds us a little of the infamous Chuck Bass, with some of us still holding out, hoping he will turn out the way season 6 Chuck did.
4. Nate Archibald
Nate's the friend that doesn't get near as much credit as he deserves. He's remained loyal to Blair and Serena even after they both broken his heart, and he's forgiven Chuck and Dan for all of the times they backstabbed him.
Nate is the underappreciated glue that sees the best in everyone and that keeps the group together. He's the friend that's able to be friends with everyone and tries his best to make even the most opposite of people get along because he know's they're better together.
5. Dan Humphrey
*SPOILER ALERT*
Dan Humphrey really is the ultimate insider. He's able to see situations for what they are and keeps everyone grounded with his Brooklyn, pessimistic attitude. He is the friend that doesn't believe in shortcuts, and the one that always gives his unpopular, but usually true, opinion, even when nobody wants to hear.
He has a bad habit of acting like he's better than his friends when they get so caught up in their many dramas that he finds ridiculous, which only causes more drama for himself in the long run. We have to remember that our "Dan" friends always means well, even when it doesn't come off that way.
"Gossip Girl" taught me all the do's and don't's when it comes to being a good friend. I'd like to think I have a little bit of each character in me when it comes to my friendship style. Serena, Blair, Chuck, Nate, and Dan have all been through so much over the seasons, they've created their own family and even the most unlikely of friends have had to lean on each other for support.
They're definitely not perfect, but what friend group is? They truly are the non-judging "Breakfast Club," and they're a friend group I wouldn't mind being in, because no matter what they're always there for each other when it matters most.
You know you love them,
xoxo
