Yes, I am a lilttle late to the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt bandwagon, but let me just tell you, I have never bingewatched a show so fast. Holy crap, that show is just amazing. Queen Tina strikes at it again with witty remarks about naive Schmidt who moves to New York City after being held hostage in a bunker in Durnesville, Indiana for fifteen years. Along the way in New York, Kimmy meets many friends including Titus, Lillian and snobby Mrs.Voorhees. Schmidt also teaches us so many lessons about life through her naivety and adventures into making New York her own:
“You can do anything for 10 seconds”
Immediately after hearing this, I put this quote into play throughout my everyday life. Whenever I have something hard I am thrown, or just in a place I really do not want to be, that motto really gets me through it. Counting to ten, and starting over again and again is calmingly methodical and makes it seem like the task at hand is really not as hard and it can become much more doable if you just take it ten seconds at a time. While living in the bunker for 15 years was surely nothing shy of miserable, running on a treadmill for 10 minutes suddenly becomes doable.
“Sometimes you just have to be a kid”
When Kimmy first comes to New York, she ravages throughout New York to get her hands on basically any material item that she has never even seen before. That includes, but is not limited to: buying light up Skechers from the posh Saks Fifth Avenue, eating a mountain of Gummy Sharks from Dylan’s Candy Bar and letting a horse free in Central Park. Yet, Kimmy did not care about what anybody thought because for the last fifteen years, she had very minimal human interaction. It was her time to finally wear an outfit from the 90's that somewhat resembled Dora the Explorer and go clubbing in a purple monogrammed JanSport Backpack. Kimmy was truly living life the way all humans should: young, wild and free.
“Never give up on your dreams”
Okay, this is a Titus lesson, but Titus Andromedon just SLAYS it in the show with his flamboyancy and zeal for life. While it is true that he auditioned for the Lion King an obscene number of times in such a short year span, he never gave up on wanting to be on Broadway. When he did not make the Lion King, he shot a video entitles, “Peeno Noir” with Lillian just to get his name out in the public, in hopes that he will eventually have his big break not being a backup Spider-Man.
Hello, this show is so funny and so many life lessons from the most unexpected characters in the most bizarre ways. After watching 12 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy, I have to say, it is incredibly refreshing to watch a show not involving epi, ten blades, or life support. Now, excuse me while I go watch Season 2.
