She's your basic average girl and she's coming to live action! Disney Channel has finally released the cast of lead roles for Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable for the upcoming live action adaption of the television show. Sadie Stanley and Sean Giambrone will star as Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable respectively. Giambrone stars in the ABC comedy, "The Goldbergs" while Stanley is an unknown who scored the role in her first ever audition. The movie is set to go into production this summer and is set to debut in 2019.
“Sadie delivers Kim’s confidence, smarts, and agility; most importantly, she’s an everyday girl with an extraordinary spirit,” said Judy Taylor, senior vice president of casting and talent relations for Disney Channel. “Sean is such a magnetic actor; he always finds the right balance of physical comedy and heart. We’re excited for audiences to see Sadie and Sean bring these iconic roles to life.”
The movie was announced back in February. For many like myself, lots of people grew up with KimPossible on our screens and lots of hype is being put on the adaption of this film. The show launched in 2002 on Disney Channel and ran for 87 episodes. Two animated Disney Channel movies were inspired by the series, “Kim Possible Movie: So the Drama” and “Kim Possible: A Sitch in Time.” Christy Carlson-Romano voiced Kim in the series, with Will Friedle voicing Ron.
I always looked up to Kim Possible as a kid and now I definitely consider her to be a cartoon feminist icon. Kim mostly battles male villains, has combat and critical thinking skills, and is never overshadowed by Ron, but always makes sure he knows that he is a help to her. Along with Kim, Shego (henchwoman to Possible's nemesis), Shego runs the show. She never straight up takes Drakken's orders, is strong willed and more sensible than her boss at times. The show was a great platform for kids like myself to grow up seeing and it is so exciting to see that kids now will be able to discover the show through the new movie.
The casting was announced through a fun video featuring Friedle and Carlson-Romano "passing off the torch" to Giambrone and Stanley. Side note: if you are not following Friedle on any social media, I highly recommend doing so.
The announcement of the casting makes the movie anticipation go up even higher and can't wait to see this movie when it comes out. The Kim Possible live action will be premiering in 2019 only on Disney Channel!
