There is a new show on NBC called Little Big Shots. The host Steve Harvey talks to multiple kids from different parts of the world to perform a talent that they have mastered. Yes, you read that correctly, mastered. The skills range from dancing, singing, playing an instrument, and even directing music. There is also a kid that seems to only miss a shot in basketball every once in awhile, as well as a young girl who can recite a song-turned-poem "Hey Black Child" by Useni Eugene Perkins (link). My favorite child, as well as Steve Harvey's favorite, is a young boy who does a perfect Bruce Lee impression and performance (link). I love watching this show because before their performance you get to hear what they have to say, and you get to see them be regular kids. I used to love watching the show Kids say the Darnest Things when I was a kid funny enough, but those kids never did some of the skills this show presents.
I came to thinking about the skills I had as a child, and how I chose to utilize them. Let's just say I never became good enough to go on a TV show. And I assume many of us would say the same. However, I hate to believe that a person is too late in achieving certain things because of a certain age. For example, I am 22, so you would think that I have plenty of time to learn many skills before I am old. But when I am old, will I not be able to learn and enjoy the world with its ever changing landscapes and societies? I refuse to believe that, and I will thrive everyday to work on my skills, and when I have mastered those I will move on to learn more and more until the last breathe I have I will use to say I love you to my family.
Little Big Shots has given me the lesson to continue life with strength, patience, and openness.
We can even learn for great people in history who encourage us to always be learning.
“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” – Mahatma Gandhi
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr. Seuss
“The important thing is not to stop questioning; curiosity has its own reason for existing.” – Albert Einstein
“The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.” – B. B. King
“Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel.” – Socrates
“Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves. Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.” - Bruce Lee
Continue to learn no matter what age you are. Live having really done the most in this world.
