The summer of 2016 has consisted of a lot of things for me: Vacations, concerts, tanning, parties, Netflix in bed, but most importantly my job. I have been nannying two girls for four days a week and I absolutely love it. I never imagined that care.com would bring me such sweet, smart and fun girls to babysit. But, what I also didn't realize is all that they could teach me, especially about this years election.
One afternoon, the girls and I were watching My Little Pony: Equestrian Girls. (I know, I know) Throughout the movie, the villain girl tries to take over the entire school (and world) and the hero girl has to try to stop her. Towards the end, the hero convinced the villain that power should be gained through encouragement not through domination. When this was said, my little 7-year-old girl asked me, "so does this mean that leaders should make friends not by having them stand below the leader, but having the leader stand with its friends?"
I said, "Yes. Absolutely."
Despite people's political views/party, I think we all have a general agreement on what we believe a president should be: strong, independent, selfless, responsible, intelligent, fair, honest, respectful and most importantly, a leader. We want somebody that will do what's best for our country and be sure to put our country's interests over his/her own personal interests. So, if we all can agree on this, then how can anyone vote for Donald Trump? Trump promotes exclusion and violence and racism and containment and sexism and inequality and so many more injustices. Therefore, in order to stand and support Trump, you have to exclude and put down so many others.
That's not what a leader should promote.
A leader should be all of the things listed above and more; and Trump is not the kind of leader that we want. So, if you can't realize that then you need to reevaluate your opinion of what a leader should be. If my naive little 7 year old babysittee can understand what a true leader should be, then you should you, too.
